The design is fairly true to the A-2 jacket of WWII, but I would describe it as A-2-inspired. It has a throat latch, proper collar snaps, but the wind flap over the zipper and pockets are not quite correct to scale when comparing to a vintage leather A-2. Fit is too blousy and I am going to try one size down. Amphibious cotton has great technical qualities in terms of water resistant, but is too light and wrinkles easily. Overall, good value for clearance price. If Orvis remakes this jacket, I would suggest going with actual sizes instead of S-XL. Additionally, material could be heavier.

This suits entirely.

I hate the static charges that build up in nylon. They cling and zap me and my electronic devices (I once lost all the data on my PDA). This jacket came with a snap pulled out of the pocket material. However, it came with a spare snap, so I can fix it.

By JQE from NJ on 03/29/2009 Describe Yourself: Casual Dresser Sizing: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: I knew I was going to return this jacket before I took it out of the cellophane. The reason is that you can see the snaps on the collar. There is a penny/dime-sized mark/indentation on each side of the collar where the snaps are. It's so obvious that it looks totally ridiculous. There are snap marks on the pockets also, which other people would have a harder time seeing. Too bad, the jacket fit well and felt comfortable. But no way I'm going to walk around with a "geek" sign on my head because of the marks on the collar.

Overall, an oustanding jacket! By Daoud from Asheville, N.C. on 02/23/2009 Pros: Attractive Design, Comfortable, Durable, Good Cut, Lightweight Describe Yourself: Classic Dresser Sizing: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This jacket is a faithful reproduction- in every detail- of the classic A-2 flight jacket, but done in lightweight fabric. It is perfect for the many days here in the mountains which can vary from quite warm to quite chilly. The color is a perfect tan, neither too light nor too dark. The only flaw, in my opinion, is that the sleeves are lined with a polyester material- makes it much easier to get on and off, but adds an element of clamminess when wearing a short-sleeved shirt underneath. But this small thing does not keep me from highly recommending this jacket- it is truly one of the nicest I've purchased in a long time, and an excellent warmer-weather alternative to my old leather A-2.
P.S.- many garments come with extra buttons, but in this case an extra snap assembly is provided- a neat touch!
