The bead work looks like it is done by hand. I can't see any other way they could possibly do it. There is nothing that gives you the impression that they will come off just by wearing the skirt. The beads hang below the end of the material on the skirt. This is not obvious from the picture. I am 5'2" and wear between a 10 and 12 skirt, depending on the cut. I tried a 10 just because I couldn't tell how this particular garment was going to fit and availability of size. This winter I purchased several Lafayette 148 jackets all of different sizes. Of course the 10 was tight. I didn't try to sit down in it so I can't figure out if the beading would make that uncomfortable. That is the reason it didn't get 5 stars. Too bad I put on some pounds as this is one spectacular skirt especially if you are going to dance!

I usually can't afford anything by Lafayette 148. Grown-up clothes for grown-up women, with tremendous elegance and style. This skirt is a knock-out. It will be equally appropriate at a cocktail party, dinner, or dance. The paillettes shimmer and the beading sways. Sexy without being trashy.

Long strips of beading only attached at top - gives nice movement to the skirt, but have great concerns that it would not work to sit in this for any lenght of time (e.g. at theater) and that it would snag very easy - and one snag and forget it. So I returned it.
