By Lilweebugs from Wasilla, AK on 07/08/2009 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Durable, Lightweight, Warm Best Uses: Casual Wear, Cold Weather, Hiking and Camping Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This jacket is one of my favorites. Looks awsome, very durable out camping, hiking(great venting options), biking(windstopper), very warm for the weight. I used to love the northface denali jackets, but this one stole the show! The fit was a little bigger then i expected(size 40), but it still looks great on me (5'5", 125lbs). I highly recomend getting this jacket, it will be one of your favorites!
Excellent Quality and Thoughtful Design By Pretty Toney from Boston, MA on 05/04/2009 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Durable, Lightweight Best Uses: Hiking and Camping Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: The Typhoon immediately impresses with its combination of durability and lightness. It's a thin but effective windstopper and very thoughtfully designed: the pit zips are long and the front pockets are high up on the jacket so you can use them even while wearing a pack with the hip belt buckled. The fit is slim and attractive, which is a welcome change from the saggy windstoppers of old. The Typhoon has been my Go To jacket for winter and spring hiking and it's my favorite windstopper to date.
Red fleece soaks up water like a sponge By Middle-Aged Camper from Little Rock, AR on 03/18/2009 Pros: Breathable, Lightweight, Stylish and form-fitting, Windproof Cons: Red is fleece not DWR Best Uses: Casual Wear, Cold Weather, Hiking and Camping Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Chest Size: Feels too small Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I bought two of these, one for my daughter and one for a friend. I was looking for a water-repellent, snag-proof, windproof softshell. The black parts are very water-repellent and snag-proof. HOWEVER, the descripton does not mention anywhere that the red part is all FLEECE. While the windstopper membrane keeps the water from getting in to the skin, the outside fleece soaks it up like a sponge, making unusable if there is a chance it might get wet. Also, I am concerned that the fleece will snag in the brush on trails and/or eventually start "pilling".
Everything else about it is top-notch. Since it is a great windproof jacket, I am going to try spraying it with a DWR treatment made for performance fabrics, hoping that will at least let it repel light drizzle and splashes. If not, it will still be great when it is cold, windy, and dry--for "open" camping or around town.
By Beth from Boston, MA on 09/17/2008 Pros: Breathable, Durable, Lightweight, Warm Best Uses: Casual Wear, Cold Weather, Hiking and Camping Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Chest Size: Feels too small Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Beautiful jacket, though other reviews are correct in that it is very narrow in the chest/armpits. I have a petite build with slightly wider shoulders than hips. I normally wear a medium top (size 4 or 6) and I ordered the 40. The shoulders fit okay but it bunched in the armpits (I suspect because of the zippers). The sleeves were long enough which is sometimes hard to find. The jacket is beautiful and excellent quality but I am returning it because the bunching in the armpits will annoy me - especially because I need to be able to layer under it.
Good Swedish quality, fit & style By north girl from Canada on 05/18/2008 Pros: Breathable, Durable, Lightweight, Warm Best Uses: Casual Wear, Hiking and Camping Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Great pit zips - really long and with lots of options for venting some areas and keeping others toasty warm.
Ample room across the shoulders and not too much room in the waist.
High collar that can be cinched to prevent wind from flying down the neck.
By Ranger Siri from Gardiner, Montana on 05/13/2008 Pros: Breathable, Lightweight Best Uses: Extreme Conditions, Extreme windy conditions, Hiking and Camping Describe Yourself: Professional Guide Chest Size: Feels too small Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: It runs very small across the chest... I wear a women's size 4 top, and ordered a Euro Size 40.
The fleece has virtually no pile, so it's not "cozy", but if you're buying a wind-stopper, that's probably not what you're looking for;
it's a GREAT wind-stopper, and very form-fitting, attractive

It is a great fit.
