The pillows were a plus to have on the beach instead of just a regular towel/blanket.

By PanamaJames from Vicenza, Italy on 07/21/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Compact Best Uses: Beach, Star-gazing Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Each year my family looks forward to watching the meteor showers. This usually involves hauling out blankets and pillows and all sorts of other stuff so we can get comfortable and watch the display. This blanket is awesome. It folds up into a compact bundle but has actual pillows attached that provide head support. It is a bit thin, but it wouldn't fold up so well if it weren't and it has stakes so we don't have to worry about the wind constantly flipping up the sides. The material is soft and I like the fact that it has a waterproof surface underneath (although thankfully I have not had to test that).
By OutdoorRex from Moulton, AL on 07/20/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Compact, Durable, Easy to pack, Lightweight, Storage Pocket Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Comfort Driven Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I purchased this for my wife and I to use on the beach to lay out in the sun together. We used it on a lake boat dock first and it works great. She and my daughter liked the built in pillows and the pocket with a zipper to store the stakes that come with it or anything else you want to keep up with. My only mild complaint is the weird color combination. The quality of the product is very good. I think this will work great on the beach. I recommend this product if you want a very comfortable beach towel to share with your spouse.

I wanted it for the beach and I will use it there but will put a towel on top of it to acheive the appropriate thickness.
