A solid item at a good price By Scooter Commuter from London, UK on 05/11/2008 Pros: Abrasion Resistant, Tough Best Uses: Protection, Street Riding Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: The reviews stating get a bigger size are spot on, I am XL and with this jacket 2XL fits well.
I have upgraded the armour inserts and although heavy and at times hot (even without the thermal liner) the jacket feels solid and well built.
The velcro to the left of my neck catches the helmet strap and I have had to cover this over.
Overall happy with the jacket.
By drselwyn from Eastsound, WA. on 05/04/2008 Pros: Abrasion Resistant, Breathable, Tough Cons: Bulky, Uncomfortable Best Uses: Long Rides, Poor Weather, Protection, Street Riding Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I used to own the Hein Gericke "Dakar" leather jacket years ago. I never should have sold it! This "Spader" model, while clearly a quality product, is no substitute. There's no better material than quality thick leather to prevent road rash. The Spader makes use of leather sections in key impact areas with dense rubber (removable) inserts underneath. No way to tell if this would be effective until you end up sliding down the roadway so I can't comment about that. The jacket without the rubber inserts is way more comfortable. You must order at least one size larger because they run very small. The arms are angled from the shoulder to lend themselves to the forward (low bars) riding position as opposed to upright (thus 4 stars instead of 5). Jacket feels substantial and supportive.

HEIN GERICKE SPADER MENS MOTORCYCLE JACK By Adrian from Darwin, Australia on 03/12/2008 Pros: Abrasion Resistant, Comfortable, Stylish Best Uses: Long Rides, Off-Road, Poor Weather, Protection Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: The jacket looks fantastic, good protective padding, plenty of pockets and good ventilation. My only problem is the sizing, normally a 2 x XL is a good fit for me with room underneath for the liner and a vest but i have had to take out the liner on this jacket and it still needs to be a size bigger.
Designed in Germany; made where...? By tanstaafl from Berkeley, CA on 03/10/2008 Pros: Abrasion Resistant, Comfortable, Stylish, Tough Cons: Needs a two-way zipper, Sleeves should be longer Best Uses: Commuting, Long Rides, Street Riding Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: I use this jacket almost daily. I find myself looking forward to wearing it out (or handing it off to someone) so I can justify buying something better. Not bad for the price, but I think Heine Gericke should be a little more careful about what they put their name on. It's a touring length jacket, but the zipper doesn't open from the bottom. The sleeve zips are purely decorative as they don't snug down the sleeve enough to matter.
The jacket is as advertised By scooterest w/ f650 from Castle Rock, CO on 03/05/2008 Pros: Abrasion Resistant, Breathable, Comfortable, Stylish, Tough Best Uses: Long Rides, Off-Road, Poor Weather, Protection, Street Riding Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I'm 6'-1"- 185 lbs- 36" waist w/35" sleeves and the XL fit perfectly.
Best All-Around Long-Ride Jacket By J.S. from Austin, TX. on 01/15/2008 Pros: Abrasion Resistant, Stylish, Tough Best Uses: Long Rides, Poor Weather, Protection Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Superb design, top-quality materials, very functional, and looks great. Heavy duty throughout and looks like it will last for years. However be aware that the sizing is for Europeans. The 3XL is about U.S. size XL (46 chest/42 waist). If you need anything larger, it won't fit.
