By jim from New Haven, CT on 03/13/2009 Pros: Arch Support, Comfortable/No Break-In Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: These are comfotable the moment you step into them. They provide good arch support. They aren't too clunky looking. The only down side is that they are incredibly squeaky. Also- true to size.
Not Quite Right (for me)... By Laurel from Boston, MA on 11/25/2008 Pros: Durable, Stabilizes Foot Cons: Not Comfortable, Poor Cushioning Best Uses: City walking, Everyday, Light hiking Describe Yourself: Recreational Walker/Hiker Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I agree with other reviewers about Merrells (often)being comfortable right out of the box without break in. But these weren't for me (I bought them to replace worn-out Merrells which I wear almost all the time). My full-length orthotic seemed to fit in fine, but it turned out unbenownst to me that it was sliding forward on one foot...I ended up with an injury to my heel as a result. There is a bit LESS padding/cushioning in the shoe (beyond the foam insole which I removed) and I could feel it at the end of the day. I also think the TOE BOX is more narrow (bunion level) than some, and more narrow than my other Merrells. I had to stretch them out but they did break in. Its nice that they are all leather, they did repel rain very well and my feet did not get soaked; I bet they'd be good shoes for a lighter wt person/someone with no foot probs (who could do with less cushioning) and someone who could get away with a narrower toe box than I can (I have a small bunion).
Test them out in a store before buying By milesofsmiles from Novato, CA on 11/15/2008 Describe Yourself: Hike every weekend, Recreational Walker/Hiker Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: The first pair I bought were my normal shoe size, 7 1/2. They felt great in the house, but the minute I walked down my steep driveway, I knew I'd have problems hiking, so I sent them back and ordered 8's. I guess these shoes where not the right ones for me. After wearing them hiking, and I hike a lot, and have a different pair of Merrells, my calves ached. In fact, they were not comfortable during the hike. I was so disappointed because I loved the color, the look, and the feel just around the house.
By Love to walk! from Pocono's, PA on 11/09/2008 Pros: Dries Quickly, Durable, Great Traction, Warm Cons: Needs more cushioning Best Uses: All Weather Conditions, Everyday, Mixed Terrain, Muddy Conditions, Paved Trails, Rocky/Unstable Terrain Describe Yourself: Recreational Walker/Hiker Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I was so excited when I received these I wore them about 5 miles on trails and 3 on the road to test them out, the first day! My feet stayed warm & dry and they worked great on both walking surfaces. My heels were a little sore after that, but that's a normal problem with me after standing for extended periods of time. Here in PA, we have hilly, rocky, muddy trails and these work fantastic!
By Outside girl from North Carolina on 11/07/2008 Pros: Durable, Great Traction, Stabilizes Foot Describe Yourself: Recreational Walker/Hiker Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: When I turn my foot certain ways, I feel the top of the shoe against my ankle, which is uncomfortable, so I'll be returning them. If the top of the shoe were just a little lower, I would like them. Most of the other reviews were good...perhaps I have a short ankle.
By With Back Issues from Norman, OK on 08/17/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Great Traction, Non-slip sole, Stable Best Uses: Backcountry, Day hikes, Everyday Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I have major back issues, love Merrells and bought these to replace my wornout Merrells. They are fabulous. I walked all over England for a week - hours on my feet every day and my back (and the shoes) held up beautifully. They are my new favorite every day shoes. Very sturdy with much support - which I need.
I definitely recommend them.

Great hiking shoes, comfortable By Suz from Petoskey, MI on 08/13/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Great Traction, Non-slip sole Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I thought I'd have to break in these shoes for a trip to the Grand Canyon so I've been wearing them on local trails before we go. But these shoes don't really need a "breaking in" period because they're so comfortable already and provide a lot of support.

By Bee from San Rafael, CA on 08/12/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Great Traction, Non-slip sole, Stable Best Uses: Day hikes, Everyday Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I use this pair for walking (3-4 miles) and to just run errands. It is very comfortable without needing a "break in" period. We haven't had rain yet, so I can't comment on how it does in wet weather.
