Durable shoe for Cinderella's sisters By BeeBug from Utah on 01/02/2009 Pros: Attractive, Durable, Great Traction Best Uses: Everyday, Mixed Terrain, Rocky/Unstable Terrain Describe Yourself: Recreational Walker/Hiker Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Asolos have a reputation for durability and comfort, unlike glass slippers. But I recommend this particular model for Cinderella's sisters because these shoes seem rather long and narrow for the sizing.
I don't think I have wide feet, but these shoes seemed narrow. Due to the disagreement among raters regarding sizing, I purchased my usual size (8.5) plus the two smaller half sizes (8 and 7.5), with the intent of returning the two that don't fit.
Here's the sizing breakdown:
--The full-size smaller is just right in length but very 'pinchy' around the ball of my foot (way too narrow).
--The half-size smaller is a bit too long, and not quite so 'pinchy' but still uncomfortably narrrow.
--My regular size feels almost okay around the ball of my foot (slightly narrow), but the extra length (1 and 1/2 thumbs-width between my toe and the end of the shoe) makes the shoe feel 'sloppy' around my heels and arches as I walk.
Verdict: Still trying to decide what combo of bad fit is best... kind of like voting in elections.
General praise for Asolo: I have loved my old Asolos and wanted to find something equally comfortable and durable. They are at least 3 years old, worn 8+ hours a day for two years of that. It's hard to admit to myself that they are worn out, because the full-suede/leather upper is still in great shape, with no pulled stitches etc. The fabric lining around the ankle/heel has been worn out for a while, but the shoes are still comfortable and the lining doesn't show when I've got long pants on. But walking in snow is a hazard now- the tread has finally worn smooth on the bottom! Sadly, with the bad fit of all three of these new pairs, I think I'll have to keep looking for something else to replace my favorite shoes...

By Lucy from Indianapolis, Indiana on 11/13/2008 Pros: Comfortable/No Break-In, Durable, Great Traction, Shock-Absorbent, Stabilizes Foot Best Uses: Everyday, Paved Trails Describe Yourself: Recreational Walker/Hiker Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I got this shoe for city hiking. It works fine for our 15 mile treks on asphalt. However, for trail use, I would prefer the support of a boot. This shoe runs large. My regular shoe size is 9-91/2. In boots I usually take a 10 to accommodate thicker socks. I got this hiking shoe in a 9 and it is roomy enough for thick socks without bothering my bunions.

By Loon Lover Mom from Adirondacks, NY on 09/08/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Great Traction, Non-slip sole, Stable Best Uses: Backcountry, Cold weather, Day hikes, Everyday Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: It says these shoes run large so order one size smaller. I recommend ordering only 1/2 size smaller. I did that, and they fit just right.
By Marla from Batavia, NY on 07/20/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Great Traction, Stylish, Water Resistant Best Uses: Backcountry, Day hikes, Everyday Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: i bought these because another review mentioned they were good for wide feet and they are great for wide feet! i bought my normal size, possibly a tad too big but just right for hiking socks. i wore these 2 days, then on a 17 mile hike on an adirondack high peak. i brought extra shoes in case and didn't even need them. what more can you ask for - shoes that are comfortable right out of the box & great price! they look great too.
By dallas mom from Dallas, TX on 07/16/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Non-slip sole, Stable Best Uses: Day hikes, Everyday, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I would have been disappointed if I had NOT read other reviews. I typically order one full size up for hiking shoes. Based on other reviews I ordered my typical street shoe size (7) and the shoe was a perfect fit to accommodate heavy socks. It has a very open toe box, which might bother some but I like. I haven't done any actual hiking w/these but walking around city streets -- very comfortable. Just as an aside, easy to lace/tie. Good value.
By Linda from Milwaukee, WI on 07/12/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Great Traction, Non-slip sole, Stable, Water Resistant Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Sizing: Feels half size too big Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I have somewhat narrow feet. Asolo shoes are the most comfortable shoes I own. I walk 3-5 miles a day and my Asolos are instantly comfortable right out of the box.

By KoolKat from Florida on 06/11/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Stable, Wide toe box Best Uses: Day hikes, Everyday Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Sierra notes that these shoes fit large. I disagree. In my opinion the length is true to size but the shoe has a very wide toe box. Perfect for me. So, if you have wider feet, or prefer a roomier toe box, these very well may be the perfect shoe for you.
