Comments:
I work in them (driving a bus in Boulder) take the dogs out for 2 mile walks every day and though I haven't yet had the opportunity, plan to take them along this summer on the several backpacking trips I have planned to wear in the evening and when the boots just get too heavy. They provide good support all around and I think will manage a moderate pack pretty well. I have no comments related to things that aren't so good.

Comments:
I used these shoes for wet/snowy/icy weather commutes, almost 5 miles per day... for 3 days, before I sent them back. They had great traction, stiff soles that provided great stability, slightly narrow in the forefoot, wide in the heel. They were heavy-duty, so I didn't mind their heft. Felt like they would go the distance. But they have a piece of material sandwiched between the outer and inner layers on the top of the shoe where the frontmost lacing loop attaches, right over the big toe. This very hard piece of material (metal?) is right where the shoe flexes, and it felt like a thumb tack being pushed into my big toe joint with every step. It got no better with three days of walking, so I sent it back. I am in Sports Medicine, so I could have doctored the shoe to cushion this extremely painful fault, but I can't justify that in a brand new pair of shoes, especially after I walked 15 miles in them. Pass on these!
