By Ellie from Portland, OR on 12/11/2008 Pros: Comfortable/No Break-In, Great Traction, Stabilizes Foot Best Uses: Mixed Terrain, Muddy Conditions, Rocky/Unstable Terrain Describe Yourself: Trail Jogger Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I bought these shoes to improve my trail jogging experience - previously using regular running shoes on trails. These were comfortable out of the box but the soles are quite stiff as several other reviews pointed out which I think is helpful for support on uneven terrain. The traction is excellent and I quite enjoyed them on the trails and felt stable and supported. That being said, part of the run I do is on a paved fire lane and I did not at all like these for paved surfaces. The stiff sole and extra traction made the flat surface feel awkward. For trails, running or hiking, I think these are great. I would not recommend them for paved surfaces.

Good for winter trail walking/running. I will buy a lighter more flexable shoe for summer when I run more than walk.

By spychic from alexandria, va on 12/02/2008 Pros: Arch Support, Breathable, Comfortable/No Break-In, Dries Quickly, Durable, Great Traction, Shock-Absorbent, Stabilizes Foot Best Uses: Dog Walking, Grass, Mixed Terrain, Muddy Conditions, Rocky/Unstable Terrain, Short day hikes, Trail Runs Describe Yourself: Gym Rat, Recreational Walker/Hiker, Scrambler, Street Trail Runner, Trail Jogger Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I credit this shoe with fueling my joy and passion for trail running. I have had every version of this model and really became attached to the ride and platform. It was immediately comfy for a long run right out of the box and it never seemed to "breakdown" or lose it's support/cushioning the way running shoes do after 300 - 500 miles. These were so easy to run in, they took me through thick mud, woods and roots, snow, and pavement on occasion without a turned ankle or so much as a blister. I became an avid trailer and owe many miles of concrete free runs to the success and feel of this shoe. However, I moved and now have access to xtreme trails and need gore-tex. I wrote Vasque about this option 3 years ago, but never received a reply. Kind of lost my enthusiasm for the company and the shoe as a result.
