Works fine in Spin class with shoe strapped on the pedal. It has a recessed cleat but I have not purchased the clip/cleat insert yet (have to get this separate @ local cycle shop). This is a mountain biking shoe that is stiff soled and has a roomy toe.

They are light and comfortable. The SPD cleats were easily mounted and they have served their purpose well.
