Marathon for just that, longer routes
By sparksVerified Reviewer from San Diego, CA on 06/23/2008

Cons:

Best Uses:
Long Climbs, Outdoor
Describe Yourself:

Sizing:

Width:

Bottom Line:

Comments:
I got these for longer moderate routes and it appears that's exactly what they are good at. I've worn them in the gym and they were fine, not as sensitive as you might want but not clunky either. Outdoor they seem to edge well and were nice on a fairly wide crack. On a friction pitch they did not seem to stick as well as my other shoes. These are comfortable and you probably could walk down a route without killing your toes.

These shoes are great for those long days of climbing. They're super comfortable and the padded heel absorbs any impact when you fall before you place that first piece of gear!

If you like the fit of la sportiva, these shoes are great. The only complaint maybe that the rubber does not stick as well as C4 stealth or vibium XS grip. Over all it's a good value.

My first pair of shoes were bad (Bad as in "not good."), I got into some Scarpa Rockette's for very aggressive climbing and realized how poorly my others fit. So I retired my first pair but realized I needed some indoor/all day comfortable shoes. I decided on the Scarpa Marathon and have been more than happy w the results! They edge on dime edges that are barely visible (indoors even), they smear and stem w confiedence. They toe nicely, they heel hook effectively. And after 5 hrs in the gym, my feet don't hurt... But my soles do turn yellow :)

Comments:
This is my 2nd pair of Marathons. They are a bit tight at start and a tad narrow for my fat feet, and don't really stretch much for a couple years of wear. The plus side: they are bulletproof and have a padded traction heel, making them good both for bouldering and epic walk-offs (think Middle Cathedral gully in the Valley). You may want to size a 1/2 European size larger than you are used to if you have battered old feet like mine since they won't stretch apprecialbly (even though they are unlined). Fits like a glove and the padded tongue is perfect in the comfort dept. They will stain your feet a hideous bile-yellow color for a year or two when your feet sweat. Nice shoe.

Comments:
I'm a mostly indoor climber. These shoes are great for edging with a stiff board lasted rand. They have a nice comfy tongue but I don't hang out in them between climbs. Great stitching and they're holding up very well under steady abuse.
