Much smaller than I thought it would be. By Scrimmy from San Francisco, CA. on 03/24/2008 Pros: Compact, Easy To Setup, Lightweight Best Uses: Backcountry Camping, Emergencies, Survival Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: When I took it out of the package it came in,
I felt like I was picking up the king on a
chess board, yes, it's that small.
When up close, the light is a little bit
too bright, although, a small piece of tin foil
around one side can fix that. Still, the lack
of need for batteries makes it worth the price.

We do not like to rely on oil lamps, so this is an excellnet buy for us.

By Smile from Fullerton CA on 03/18/2008 Pros: Bright, Durable, Stable Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Initial advertising said it could be charged using the car outlet. Since I am officially elderly, that was an attractive feature. But it is not on the lantern.

By Roland The Headless Thompson Gunner from Louisville, Ky. on 03/14/2008 Pros: Bright, Durable, Long battery life, Stable Best Uses: Backpacking, Car Camping, Day trip, Hiking Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I did not read the dimensions on the lantern before I purchased it so it was a lot smaller than I thought...but it's perfect! It is ideal for lightweight backpacking that will illuminate your tent or sit on a rock beside your campsite. And the windup charging is another bonus>>>No Batteries Required.
By pjlenny from Eugene, OR on 03/13/2008 Pros: Adjustable Beam, Bright, Durable, Long battery life Best Uses: Backpacking, Car Camping, Hiking Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This little lantern is easy to pack along and certainly useful.
By stayathomemom from Philadelphia, PA on 03/10/2008 Pros: No batteries or matches Cons: Dim, No Beam Adjustment Best Uses: Power outage at home Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: I was looking forward to having a reliable lantern around the house for power outages, general use, and occasional camping. We have plenty of flashlights and lanterns, but they never seem to have batteries in them. Finding batteries, and keeping the right ones on hand is a hassle. I thought this would be a great solution. However, the light is too dim to be of any use other than to find another, better flashlight. It's about as bright as a night light. The light is brighter as you're cranking, but as soon as you stop, it dims. Note the product description says the light lasts nine minutes, then think about whether you want to crank it every nine minutes. As others have said, that gets old. Might be useful in a tent where you only need to find your clothes, etc., but you couldn't read by this and I doubt you could use it to light your path in the woods.
By Redeemed from Asheville, NC on 01/02/2008 Pros: Doesn't need Batteries, Durable Cons: Not for a large area Best Uses: Backpacking, Car Camping Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: We purchased this lantern for emergency lighting without the need for batteries but found it is only bright in a very small radius. It might be ok in a tent, but only lights a bedroom enough to make out where the furniture is.
Cool concept, mediocre implementation By E from PDX on 01/02/2008 Pros: Long battery life, Stable Best Uses: Backpacking, Car Camping, Hiking Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Very nice concept, I will carry it backpacking, as well as in the car. Provide enough light to take care of the essentials in a tent. The reflector however does not shed light in a useful pattern. While it provides sufficient light to read by, it is very awkward to place the unit such that the light is shed on the page. It would be more useful if it could be hund upside down, or there was some method for adjusting the light pattern.
