I think this would be great for most dogs but a bit heavy for a small dog.

That is what I wanted anyhow. I have a dominant breed dog and I use 3' or less leash. We use agility leashes or take leather ones that are long to the shoe repair man and he makes them short for our dog group.

The clip is heavy and very sturdy. I wouldn't recommend it for smaller dogs and the clip is rather large and heavy, but for mine, it's perfect. The width of the leash is good too.
