A bit damaged and yes, a bit pleather. By alive, aware and kicking from Bayville, Nuevo Jersey on 08/22/2009 Pros: Adequate Capacity, Secure Design, Well Organized Inside Cons: Heavy looking handlle, Not lightweight at all, Ramo's return has arrived Best Uses: Daily Commuting Describe Yourself: Classic Dresser Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: This is a heavy duty briefcase and it's weight feels that way. Could probably handle a commuter's needs well. Not as small as I expected so it will hold a reasonable amount of stuff.
I purchased it for the rare business meeting I have where I need a lovely looking briefcase that will hold both papers and my small pc note book.
Unfortunately, I seem to have received the first reviewer's, Ramo from NYC's return, and there is a definte problem with the leather on the lower portion of the front. The leather is as stiff as can be and this looks as if someone rolled it a bit to get it in the plastic bag or the box. Stiff leather just can't take that and will and here has actual crack lines that can't just be polished out because they have broken through the finish and then down through the dye and left permanent creases.
I may order another one right now to avoid Ramo's re-return but I agree with the "pleather" reviewer: this isn't $500 briefcase leather and it's pretty obvious. The trim on the flap for instance should have been dyed in the same lot but wasn't so it's a bit on the pink side rather than the mahogany that was obviously intended and it is noticeably off. That could be fixed with polish over time. And this sort of stiff leather does need polish and care before you walk out the door. One personal dislike is the heavy looking handle that makes it a bit more masculine that I would like and yet the case overall is too small for the average guy.
I will give it another go because I want a mahogany colored briefcase and this is that - and on the dark side. And Sierra is nice enough not to ask for those $500 because then I would just return it.
By Ramo from NYC on 06/29/2009 Pros: Adequate Capacity, Attractive Design, Lightweight Cons: Slighted marked exterior Best Uses: Important Documents, Meetings Describe Yourself: Trendy/Stylish Dresser Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Nice bad. Fairly small, so I will use it for important meetings rather than general travel or commute.
Exterior leather had some marks and distress. Will try to exchange it for an umblemished one. If not available, I will likely return

By All New Now from Milwaukee, WI on 02/28/2009 Pros: Attractive Design, Lightweight, Quality Construction, Secure Design, Well Organized Inside Best Uses: Important Documents, Staying Organized Describe Yourself: Classic Dresser Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I was surpised to see the other negative review! I have several briefcases, all high end conservative business items. This is designed as a smaller size case and is well constructed and made of quality leather and hardware. I would not pay full retail for this case, but at this price along with an extra 10% off for signing up for Deal Flyer its a great buy. If someone wantes a bigger stiffer case, you should go with Acme, but you will pay for it. I am very happy with this item for the purpose I intend to use it for.

I have a lot of nice brief cases, ACME, etc., and this one fits my needs. I would not say it would be worth full price, but at the cost I paid it is a great buy. The leather and finish is beautiful.
By triharder from MW on 02/09/2009 Pros: Adequate Capacity, Attractive Design, Lightweight Best Uses: Important Documents Describe Yourself: Classic Dresser Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: Doesn't feel like a brief case worth $500.00. Feels like pleather -- cheap, flimsy. My office mate guessed a value of $80.00.
