By clear from Michigan on 11/02/2008 Describe Yourself: Comfort-oriented Sizing: Feels half size too small Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: These boots are much narrower in the toe than my old boots of a different brand. I took the recommendation of ordering a size down than I usually do and wish I hadn't listened to that suggestion. They were ok hiking on flat surfaces, but my toes were cramped and hitting when hiking downhill. Since they were not available in the right size I ordered a different style Asolo in the size I normally would order and they are more comfortable, including downhill. I want these to hike mountains but they aren't even comfortable on hills. I'm sending these back---but I still rate them a 5 because they would be a great boot in the right size.
By clear from Michigan on 10/28/2008 Sizing: Feels half size too small Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: The toe box is narrower than my Merrill boots so I found going downhill was not as comfortable. I ordered true to size based upon reviews but I would suggest ordering a half size larger than your normal shoe size if you'll be hiking on hills. Too bad I didn't go on a hilly hike until the third time out and don't think I can return them now, so these will be put on the back burner for only when on flat terrain. The sole is also much thicker and stiffer, while fine hiking they weren't good to drive in, making me have to change into the boots when I arrive at my hiking destination.
By BLB from Denver, CO on 10/05/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Stable Describe Yourself: Comfort-oriented, Conservative Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This was my first new pair of boots in 10 years, and I was dreading breaking in a new pair. They were extremely comfortable right out of the box. I wore them for 20 straight days, 12-14 hours a day, and had no hot spots. I was hiking up and down slopes, on scree and rip-rap, and through dense brush - great traction and support. I'm typically a size 7 with a wide forefoot but not a true "wide" width. I ordered a size 7, and the fit was great with no pinching or hitting the front of the boot on downhills. I did not get a chance to test the waterproofness. My only complaint is the fact that they do tend to feel hot by the end of the day, so they don't seem to breathe too well.

With little time to break them in I wore them to work. I work 12 hour shifts as a nurse. I wore these boots right out of the box for 2 12 hours days walking 90% of the day, without a problem. On the hike they performed like champions. No blisters or hot spots. Very water proof. Love Them.

Still have yet to try them through water logged areas or streams, but they are stable and well-made. True to size fit.
By [@].blissfulbodyyoga[@] from Gastonia, NC on 08/12/2008 Pros: Breathes Well, Comfortable, Durable, Stable, SUPER comfy out of the bo, Warm Best Uses: Casual Wear, Cold Weather, Hiking, Travel, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Comfort-oriented, Looking for good value, Looking for high-quality Sizing: Feels half size too big Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Asolo was recommended to me by my cousin who is an avid outdoors man, and wears the boots for construction work all day. He said they were a great fit out of the box, warm and durable, and they are ALL those things. I literally put them on and went hiking for 3 hours and my feet and legs felt great. The tred gives good traction, the ankle stability is excellent and the weather proofing really keeps the moisture and cold out. I have worn them on 100 degree days as well and my feet have stayed comfortable, so they breathe well. I would recommend these to anyone and will definitely by them again. Also, the price at Sierra Trading Post was unbeatable (and I shopped around a lot!)
On the recommendation of other reviewers I ordered a half-size smaller then my normal size and they were a perfect fit.

The ankle support was very good. I felt I needed to add regular inserts that you can buy anywhere. This made them nice and snug, with no up and down looseness. I understand it is a usual procedure to put insoles in hiking boots. The last boots I bought 15 years ago caused blisters but these boots are great!

I used them on a short Colorado backpacking trip (15-20 miles) in the Maroon Bells area. They survived lots of ankle-high stream crossings.

Wore them hiking through 4 miles of rocky caves in Mammoth, KY. Perfect. Didn't get wet. Keep my weak left ankle stable the entire time on uneven terrain. Wide enough to accommodate wide foot + a thick hiking sock and still comfortable. Great purchase!
