Awesome Boots! Thank you STP!!! By Tranman from Clovis on 06/22/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Arch Support, Flexible, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Warm, Water Resistant Best Uses: Cold Weather, Day Hiking, Everyday, Harsh Terrain, Heavy Loads, Light Loads, Long-Distance Hiking, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I already commented on these after walking around town. Now this is my review after hiking with these boots.
These boots are comfy when you first slip them on, but after being on your feet all day, you do get the feeling they require a bit of break in. No hot spots but you can definitely feel them. I would recommend switching the insoles out for something with more heel cushion like a high end Dr. Scholl's or other brand insole. Then these feel perfect! These boots GRIP everything on dry land. Very little slip or slide in these over dry surfaces. I haven't tested the wet slick rocks yet. The also seem to have a rocking motion to them when walking so it seems to flex from front to back well but not side to side, which is what you want. After a full day, they can feel a bit heavy, but it's a heavy duty boot, so can't complain there. Even after being in them all day, my feet are warm and fairly dry with a good wool sock. Not at all hot and sweaty and NO hot spots! I'm very happy with these so far and hope they hold up for a long time. Also if I'm not carry a pack, I don't lace them up all the way to give my ankles a little more flex room. These are a great all around boot. Hope this helps. Oh yeah, buy a 1/2 size bigger.
Awesome boots, great price! Thanks STP! By Tranman from Clovis, California on 06/11/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Arch Support, Comfortable/No Break-In, Flexible, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Warm, Water Resistant Best Uses: Cold Weather, Day Hiking, Everyday, Harsh Terrain, Heavy Loads, Light Loads, Long-Distance Hiking, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I love to over-research before buying. I spent 3 days looking all over the net and reading reviews to try to find the best mid duty hiking boots possible. Raichle, Zamberlans, & Vasque made the top of the list. It was down to Zamberlans or these Raichles for their comfort, durability, styling, and great price point. Well the Raichle seem to have won several awards for their comfort and all the reviews I've read seem to agree. They are right! very comfy! -Styling wise, especially the black color looks great. These have a traditional boot look to them. Also note that this boot in the brown and black have different outer soles, and the toe guard is different.-Durability: Several reviewers say that the glue gave way and bottems popped off after a year or two! Well, I'll have to see about that. I don't hike a ton, so they should last me longer. I can also have a shoesmith repair them if that happens, or just buy another pair then. -Price point: If you can find your size, STP has great prices. I also got an additional 20% off so I ended up paying just a little over $100 for these! The Zamberlans were about $70 more, which is not a big deal. I did like the styling of these over the Zamberlans, so I went with these. [...]. They are as the reviewers say. Super comfortable out of the box and requires little to no break in period. They do not feel like a heavy or clunky boot, but this can be subjective. I have a normal to slightly wide foot. I normally wear 8-8.5 mens depending on the maker. I ordered these in 8.5 and they feel like the right size. Not too small and not too big. Toe box is just right for me. Vasque seems to have a slightly large toe box in comparison. -Flex: The boot feels stiff and sturdy but somewhat light. Walking around, they feel flexible and not stiff at all if you are wondering. The materials on this boot seem top grade. I have only walked around town and plan to hike with them this weekend. I'm sure they will hold up just fine. I am very happy with these so far, and I am a very tough critic. I hope this was helpful for those on the fence about these boots.
Good pair of hiking boots By Wellhamsrus from Canberra on 03/22/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Arch Support, Comfortable/No Break-In, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable Best Uses: Long-Distance Hiking Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Wore these boots around the house a few times then on a 30km walk through bush, beach and rock hopping. Great traction on the tread, comfortable fit and no issues with sore feet at the end of it all. Boots held up well to various scrapes. Only issue is that I can't get the tongue to tuck away as neatly as I would like. Great pair of leather boots.
By Bean from Everywhere... on 03/03/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Bad To The Bone Design, Cool Look, Great Traction, Minimal Break-In Time, Sturdy/Durable, Tough As A Tiger, Warm, Water Resistant Cons: Short Laces, Weak Eyehooks Best Uses: Cold Weather, Day Hiking, Everyday, Goin' Big, Harsh Terrain, Heavy Loads, Light Loads, Long-Distance Hiking, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer, Gnarly Explorer, Off The Beaten Trail Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Awesome boot for the bucks!!! My only problem with them has come in the form of a broken lace latch. It seems the metal used is some sort of composite and broke off fairly cleanly. It was the second lace latch down from the top so this problem definately needs to be remedied ASAP! Other than this minor draw-back I am diggin' these wheels!!!

By Wild Stallion from Los Angeles on 10/25/2008 Pros: Ankle Support, Comfortable/No Break-In, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Harsh Terrain, Heavy Loads, Long-Distance Hiking Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Great boot for slightly wider feet. Very short break-in period. Relatively lightweight for the amount of support it provides. Used them to do the Grand Canyon Rim-to-Rim and my feet were comfy the whole trip.
Average boot; substandard sole By Hiking Fool from Great Smokies on 07/10/2008 Pros: Comfortable/No Break-In, Water Resistant Cons: Not Durable/ Wears Easily Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: I like the tanned leather as I feel it's easier and cheaper to maintain than nubuck or reversed grain. I also appreciate the largely single piece construction of the upper. The tongue lacks bellows which allows more debris than usual to get inside the boot. I've never understood why boot manufacturers almost always insist on having a leather internal collar -- as is the case here. Invariably, the leather cracks as a result of perspiration, especially if the boots are used for extended backpacking trips. This is easily avoided by running fabric up to the cuff. Even more confounding is the allegiance these boot manufacturers have to Vibram brand soles. The "pieced" Vibram soles on these Raichles began separating on the first off-trail hike on which I wore them. Since then, traversing rocky headlands on the Olympic Wilderness Coast has led to even greater chunks of tread pulling loose. Over the years this is the pathetic level of durability I've come to expect from Vibram soles. The old Skywalk soles on certain Vasque products were far superior, but today Vibram seems inexplicably to have the market cornered.
Best quality for the money. Great everyday boot for outdoorsmen By Moonlightcrusier from White Mountains of Arizona on 07/07/2008 Pros: Arch Support, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Everyday, Harsh Terrain, Long-Distance Hiking, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Professional/Guide Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I work in the log woods of Ariz and use this type of boot pretty much everyday while hiking on <40% slopes. I like the lightweight boot with good traction & a firm sole with moderate ankle support...S.T.P. is the best place to shop for boots as far as I am concerned...allott of co-workers think so too!!!
