Average boot; substandard sole By Hiking Fool from Great Smokies on 07/10/2008 Pros: Comfortable/No Break-In, Water Resistant Cons: Not Durable/ Wears Easily Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: I like the tanned leather as I feel it's easier and cheaper to maintain than nubuck or reversed grain. I also appreciate the largely single piece construction of the upper. The tongue lacks bellows which allows more debris than usual to get inside the boot. I've never understood why boot manufacturers almost always insist on having a leather internal collar -- as is the case here. Invariably, the leather cracks as a result of perspiration, especially if the boots are used for extended backpacking trips. This is easily avoided by running fabric up to the cuff. Even more confounding is the allegiance these boot manufacturers have to Vibram brand soles. The "pieced" Vibram soles on these Raichles began separating on the first off-trail hike on which I wore them. Since then, traversing rocky headlands on the Olympic Wilderness Coast has led to even greater chunks of tread pulling loose. Over the years this is the pathetic level of durability I've come to expect from Vibram soles. The old Skywalk soles on certain Vasque products were far superior, but today Vibram seems inexplicably to have the market cornered.
By Tech Teacher from Ann Arbor on 07/07/2008 Pros: Accommodate orthotics, Ankle Support, Arch Support, Comfortable/No Break-In, Flexible, Sturdy/Durable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Day Hiking, Everyday, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Because I require a roomy foot box, I decided to go with the men's version. In fact, I tried on, for size, a friend's newly purchased hikers into which she had installed her customized orthotics. Instantly, I was able to realize that this pair of hikers was for me. She told me that she had purchased two pairs of the Raichle Mt. hikers on sale at the STP.
I wore my hikers inside my house (just in case), but no need to return the pair. In fact, they were comfortable and provided much needed stability. I nearly forgot I was wearing them!
Great everyday boot for outdoorsmen By Moonlightcrusier from White Mountains of Arizona on 07/07/2008 Pros: Arch Support, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Everyday, Harsh Terrain, Long-Distance Hiking, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Professional/Guide Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I work in the log woods of Ariz and use this type of boot pretty much everyday while hiking on <40% slopes. I like the lightweight boot with good traction & a firm sole with moderate ankle support...S.T.P. is the best place to shop for boots as far as I am concerned...allott of co-workers think so too!!!

By Trailweathered from Northeast Oregon on 06/24/2008 Pros: Ankle Support, Arch Support, Comfortable/No Break-In, Great Traction, Water Resistant Cons: Not Durable/ Wears Easily Best Uses: Harsh Terrain, Long-Distance Hiking, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer, Environmentalist Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: I broke these boots in day hiking twice, approx 20 miles each time. I used them backpacking in Hell's Canyon for 4 days, 60 miles total. After that hike I took them out for another day hike and the soles started popping off. The glue holding the outsoles to the uppers seemed to have quit completely. I was disappointed to have a "high quality" boot fall apart so quickly. I WILL be returning these. [...]

light weight and comfortable By puf from Idaho on 05/26/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Great Traction, Stable, Water Resistant Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: short of needing to use crampons, this boot is really solid. the comfort is there right out of the box. the heel padding in enough to capture my narrow heel and hold it down. the sole is stiff enough to allow one to walk on rocks all day and not feel them. the height of the boot allows more freedom at the ankle while providing good lateral support. look forward to many more miles in these boots.

It has a good stiff sole and has good strong construction.
By n/a from Wa. State on 05/23/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Great Traction, Non-slip sole, Stable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Backcountry, Cold weather, Day hikes, Everyday, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I was hoping these would work out for me because they are so well made and thought out. But they were too narrow at the front, causing my toes to scrunch together tightly. They are probly ok for normal medium width feet though. Mine just happen to get wide at the toes. It's very hard to fit my feet. Very frustating, especially when I find a well made product like these.
