Will be using them on the mountains in the Copper River Valley , the Matanuska Valley , and hopefully on Mt Hood in Oregon this spring ... I may even see about Keystone Canyon ice climbing as it is right down the hwy. Will report back with particulars. Will also give them a thuro temp rating as we get -60 F. here ...
Check the sizing at [...] By DJ from Azerbaijan on 10/15/2009 Describe Yourself: Competitive Climber Sizing: Feels half size too small Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: They look different on the picture, actually they are much more curved. Bought them for long routes. But they are definitely not desined for that. Great for bouldering. Good performance, I like the fit. For this kind of shoes every 1/5 size does matter, and sierratradinpost is not very exact with sizing for those shoes. Instead go to [...], find your european size, then buy them at sierratrading. I'm size 7,5, ordered 38,5 (at [...] my european should be 39). They are very tight for me, started wearing in, but at the cost of few paifull weeks. Not gonna return.
Great shoe! (not for the novice climber) By Agu from Houston, TX on 10/15/2009 Pros: Lightweight, Rugged, Versatile, Weather Resistant Best Uses: Bouldering, Indoor, Outdoor, Sprint Climbs Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Sizing: Feels half size too small Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: As other reviewer stated, right out of the box you can feel the quality of these shoes. Sadly, these are not so good for a novice climber... like me. I just feel the shoe has a very aggressive fit, best for an experienced climber, but not for somebody like me who needs to wear them for a 2-3 hour practice of balance, foot placement, etc. without going through so much pain. So I guess this is just not the right time for me to be waiting weeks for a shoe to break in. I ordered half size BIGGER than my shoe size, tried them on, left them on for 20 min. and even knowing they're supposed to be tight to the point of hurting a bit, it was a bit too much for me, so put them back in the box ready to return them.
Bottom line; I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THEM IF YOU'RE A NOVICE CLIMBER. I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THEM FOR A MORE ADVANCED CLIMBER.
By dmck from Durango, CO on 10/14/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Warm, Water Resistant Best Uses: Cold Weather, Day Hiking, Everyday, Harsh Terrain, Heavy Loads, Light Loads, Long-Distance Hiking, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: These are great boots. I did not have any problems with them except that my flat feet are taking time to get used to them. I have a few hotspots, but that is due to carrying elk quarters on my back for a couple of miles up and down steep terrain. Good quality. Would recommend to anyone.
Scarpa tramping boot experts By Kiwi bushwhacker from New Zealand on 10/14/2009 Pros: Comfort, Excellent lacing system, Excellent sole, Hold, Value for Money Cons: Narrow cut, Sizing is difficult Best Uses: Bushwhacking, Mid-level tramping, Wet weather hiking Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Fabulous boot for hard tramping. It's a bit difficult to size because it is cut smaller than you would expect, so buy it a size bigger than you normally use. The front of the boot is quite narrow so for people with narrow feet it gives fantastic hold. If you've got wide feet it's probably not for you. Beautifully made boot, with a good sole and good waterproofing. All up - a great boot!
By New Mexico hiker from Columbus, OH on 10/12/2009 Pros: Durable, Great Traction, Lightweight, Secure Fit Describe Yourself: Weekend Warrior Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I really put these shoes to the test on my latest trip to New Mexico, hiking on mountainous terrain. I like the boots very much and had just a few issues. One was lack of cushion inside the shoe. This was easily fixed with an insert. On my left inner ankle I had a persistant uncomfortable pressure point. After several adjustments, I decided to not use the last set of hooks and tie the shoe just below, which did help. I believe this is due to not being fully broken in prior to my first 3 hour hike. I wore them indoors for a 1.5 weeks, but evidently this was not enough break in time. I did not get any blistering.
By the runner from Tiburon on 10/12/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Great Traction, Secure Fit Best Uses: Backpacking, Climbing Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: best use would be hiking and backpacking. I like aboot that is waterproof. I haven't been rained on yet so I don't know how these boots will work.
By Mary from Alabama on 10/11/2009 Describe Yourself: Getting Started Sizing: Feels full size too small Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: I understand that climbing shoes should fit snugly, but these are sized extrememly small. I wear a 6W in street shoe so going by other comments, I ordered several sizes - the largest size I tried was a 38.5 and even then the shoe painfully dug into my achilles tendon, and my toes were severely curled under to the point of toe-knuckle bruising. Finally went with the Scarpa Veloce - a much more comfortable fit - in a size 37.
