By Burly Bertha from Arcata, CA on 06/11/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Durable Describe Yourself: Environmentalist, Professional, Recreational Watersporter Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I got these boots used at an outdoor consignment shop, having no idea how awesome they would be. Perfect fit for my very flat feet. I tend to like wider toe boxes and these are also perfect for that. I am a woman and have never liked women's shoes. Almost completely waterproof, though after 5 days of rain and slush, moisture did get through. They respond well to leather waterproofing treatment. I have no idea how long they were used before I got them, but they're going strong after 4 years of my abuse. Just a little leather/sole separation at the toe.

By MDC from SLC from Salt Lake City, UT on 05/31/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Great Traction, Stable Best Uses: Day hikes, Everyday, Scrambling on rock Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I've found this shoe to be very comfortable and sure footed on asphalt, cement, and rocks with very little movement of the heel. The shoe feels slightly smaller than other AKU's, but in comparing the insoles I found no difference in length or width. The shoe is much snugger than most shoes which is consistent with it being an "approach" shoe. The lacing system is excellent and the heel lock really works. I now own five different models of AKU's and the more I wear them the more appreciation I have for them. They are extremely functional shoes and the workmanship is spot on.

Got me through my first backpacking trip By 50+hiker from St. Louis, MO on 05/22/2009 Pros: Comfortable/No Break-In, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Day Hiking, Harsh Terrain, Heavy Loads, Light Loads, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Went on my first every overnight backpacking trip. Had to cross water multiple times and slosh through lots of mud. Also handled hilly and rocky conditions well. As long as the water didn't come over my boot, my socks and feet stayed dry and comfortable. Other than trying on the boots several times, never did get to break them in before the hike. Hiked 10 miles in two days and never got a blister. A little sore around the ankles but I'm not used to wearing any types of shoes over the ankles. The boots cleaned up nicely too. I thought it was a great pair of boots for a very reasonable price. Will be trying them in Yosemite this summer. Only gripe is that the laces were shorter than I would like but I didn't change them.
So good I have been trying to find more. By Geeza from Brisbane, Australia on 05/15/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Arch Support, Comfortable/No Break-In, Flexible, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable Best Uses: Harsh Terrain, Heavy Loads, Long-Distance Hiking Describe Yourself: Professional/Guide Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: These are great boots. I have used these boots in fairly harsh conditions for 2 weeks straight and have found no faults. I had to buy them a half size too big but despite them being a little roomy I would swear by them. Vey breathable and light weight. Feels like gym shoes but perform like full hiking boots. I replaced the inner sole to reduce inner volume due to the size which worked well. I like them so much I have been searching for another pair.
