By arista159 from CT on 11/10/2009 Pros: Lightweight, Lots of pockets, Stylish, Warm, Waterproof, Wind Resistant Best Uses: Around town, Backcountry, Casual Wear, Hiking, Horse back riding, Rainy weather Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Chest Size: Feels true to size Gear Usage: Rainy damp weather Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I love, love, love this jacket. I had been looking for this kind of jacket for years primarily for the cold, rainy, damp weather we seem to have so much of but I couldn't find anything that looked half way decent and had a hood too like this one. Initially I was looking for a Barbour Beaufort jacket but Barbour does not make it in this size, 30-32 which seems to work the best for me. I am actually more pleased with this jacket than Barbour because it fits better over the shoulders with not so much excessive fabric (although it is generously cut) and it also has a drawstring in the waist which can be adjusted more precisely to your body. The color is really beautiful, I would say the picture does not do it justice. The lining is a beautiful dark green plaid, a very soft flannel. The jacket is not stiff at all, it is really lightweight but reasonably warm. I wore it with a fleece underneath in 40-50 degrees weather and I was roasting. Because it is ultra wax it is not sticky like regular wax or sylkoil and it is washable and you don't have to worry about rewaxing it. There is so much attention to detail from the beautiful zipper to the snaps, the black corduroy collar and sleeve cuffs (if you roll them up), the gold pin on the collar in the shape of a partridge (the John Partridge insignia). The hood is a good size and there is also a snap on flap that one can attach around the neck to get even more protection from the rain and wind. Overall I am so very pleased with this purchase. I hope STP will continue to do business with John Partridge, it is an amazing `company. And the price was great too.
By Just Me from Hampton, VA on 11/08/2009 Pros: Attractive Design, Breathable, Comfortable, Durable, Versatile Best Uses: Casual Wear, Office, Travel Describe Yourself: Comfort-oriented, Practical Chest Size: Feels true to size Length: Feels true to length Sleeve Length: Feels too short Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This coat is warmer than it may seem at first glance. I believe that is due to the dense wool weave acting as a good wind barrier combined with the almost inapparent insulation between the wool outer layer and flannel inner lining. I purchased a bit on the large side in order to be able to fit lots of other things underneath when necessary. For this purpose, that works out. However, I could see that if one was looking for a more form-fitting coat, this would not be a good choice. Therefore, I intend to use this for cold-weather day-to-day wear. At full price, it would be too much since I am on a budget, but at the price offerred by Sierra Trading Post, that works out quite well for me. I most like that it is warm , versatile, comes with a detatchable hood, and comes in a variety of colors. However, the details I do not like as much are are the vertical-entry pockets (I prefer side entry), the button holes are an extremely close fit to the button size, and the hood is not adjustable and therefore sits on the loose side. I typically wear a size 6 these days, and purchased the S. I found that the sleeve length fits me well (halfway down the palms when weating perhaps 2 shirts underneath), but I am also 5'2". Therefore, someone taller might have issues with the sleeve length.
Dowdy: For a British Matron: Returned It By therapygirl53 from Ellensburg, WA on 11/05/2009 Pros: Lightweight, Well Made Cons: Not Warm, Unattractive Describe Yourself: Casual Dresser Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: This jacket is huge, but I ordered it too large a size. It looks well made but reminds me of a raincoat from the 50's. Very dowdy and unattractive. Hideous green pea soup color. If you want a dowdy outdated raincoat that is not warm but well made, this is your baby.

By Aniranch from Aurora, CO on 11/04/2009 Pros: Attractive Design, Comfortable, Stylish, Versatile Best Uses: Casual Wear, Going Out, Office, Travel, Work Meetings Describe Yourself: Classic, Comfort-oriented, Practical Chest Size: Feels true to size Length: Feels true to length Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I was pleased with this coat right out of the box. I did not find it to be overly wrinkled as some have commented. I love the style, the roominess (space for sweaters/suit coats/etc.) The inside pockets were a nice surprise, as was the back vent and the storm tab at the collar. Perhaps that is what some shoppers thought were attachments for some sort of lining at the collar?
I would have liked a more secure belt type. The belt tends to slip when snugged tight, but that could probably be solved by tucking the belt end under. Other than that little complaint, the coat's features are outstanding.
I would feel right at home giving a riding lesson in this coat (with the back vent buttoned up!) on a blustery day, then going to meet friends for dinner afterwards. Versatile and practical.
