Suunto

Suunto

Suunto was founded in 1936 by an enthusiast of the outdoors and orienteering who wanted to design a better compass. Finnish inventor Tuomas Vohlonen wanted to improve on standard magnetic compasses by having steadier needles for better accuracy, and his success pointed everyone looking for a compass in Suunto’s direction. Over the years, Suunto has continued to create and improve upon compasses and performance watches for all sports conditions. Today, Suunto has incorporated tiny computers into its watches to monitor everything from air pressure to heartbeat. Suunto is prided on being a leading designer and manufacturer of training watches, compasses and other sports instruments for running, diving, mountaineering, skiing, sailing and golf.

I have spent so much money on other Iron Man training watches and they break and get discolored within a year. I was determined to find a watch to run, bike and swim with. I didn't need a heart rate monitor, but it was an added bonus, The t1 is great for the price. It has a big face, but I got used to it.

Best Uses:

Describe Yourself:
Athletic, Sculling coach and comp
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Comments:
With the tan band the face was difficult to read. Setting the watch was too much trouble and the plastic face appeared too fragile or easily scratched. I sent it back because it just didn't appeal to me as much as I thought it would. The perils and opportunities of buying online. [...]

Suunto T3 Heart Rate Monitor - Composite Band

A definite for runners! Accurate reading
By run4life...Verified Reviewer from Canada on 05/29/2009
Pros:
Accurate, Comfortable, Easy To Use, Gives A Quick Reading
Cons:
Costly accessories
Best Uses:
Great training tool, Running, Treadmill
Describe Yourself:
Frequent Exerciser
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Comments:
This watch takes your running to a new level! Excellent quality and will become your best friend. Easy to use and retrieving data is a snap. I would recommend the foot pod(not currently available on this site)as it definitely enhances your run. There's also a more comfortable heart rate monitor(although the one that comes with this watch is suitable)and a PC pod that makes it handy to track your workout sessions. Great price for this watch. I'm extremely happy with this purchase.

Suunto T1 Training Watch (For Men and Women)

couldn't figure it out
By Learning RunnerVerified Reviewer from Raleigh, NC on 05/25/2009
Pros:
Stylish
Cons:
Difficult To Use
Describe Yourself:
Athletic, Practical, Stylish
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Comments:
Instructions for use are extremely spare, ultimately not helpful. Watch seems to only have military time as an option, which is impractical for me. I gave it my best shot, but it's just too hard for me to use.

Suunto X9 MI Altimeter Watch with GPS and Electronic Compass (For Men and Women)

All looks. Doesn't work good.
By FanaticoVerified Reviewer from Houston, TX on 05/22/2009
Pros:
Stylish
Cons:
Bulky, Difficult To Use, Unreliable
Describe Yourself:
Athletic, High End Shopper, Modern, Practical
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Comments:
It looks very nice and the red backlight is very cool. BUT it doesn't work for it's purpose. The GPS looses track repeatedly during a normal 5 mile run with CLEAR sky in the city, not even talk about woods, trees... When downloading the recorded track to the PC, these problems with the GPS cause the route to look nothing like the actual one. My 5 miles appeared like they would've been 14, my max speed, 79 mi/h (like my car!), which killed the REAL average speed too. Bottom line: If you want to spend $300/plus in a watch that looks cool but won't work for you as a GPS tracker, buy this. I know that I didn't, so I already returned it. I guess I should have paid attention to the bad ratings too.
