Good watch, would buy again. By Mayr the cyclist. from Salt Lake City, UT on 04/08/2009 Pros: Adjustable Watchband, Good Quality, Reliable Describe Yourself: Athletic Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: It's great for tracking my heart rate, which is the main reason I bought it. Once I get used to the other functions, I'm sure I'll appreciate it even more.
By GMer from Columbia, SC on 03/29/2009 Describe Yourself: Athletic Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: Had high hopes for this GPS enabled watch at the attractive price on ST but can't recommend it. Only got a signal about one out of every five times used, trying it hiking, running, & boating. When I did get a signal the watch reset the time eight hours ahead?!. Unreliability means I can't be comfortable even using as a backup. Others seem to have had better success so possibly mine is a defective unit but am returning.

By Greta's mom from Ashburn, VA on 03/11/2009 Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I bought this watch because I wanted a watch/HR monitor combo. Contrary to what a lot of other folks have said, I don't think this watch was difficult to set up initially - I just started pushing buttons and figured it out. However, I still have yet to figure out how to change the hour on the time (watch doesn't seem to be doing what the directions say it should). Also, it has a very large face - probably fine for guys but large on women. It is light, however, so the size isn't too bothersome. It's easy to flip back and forth between time and HR.
By johnWY from Wyoming on 03/07/2009 Pros: Adjustable Watchband, Comfortable to wear, Easy to see, Good Quality, Reliable, Stylish Cons: Takes time to learn watch Describe Yourself: Athletic Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: As an avid runner, this watch is great. Be sure to give yourself time to learn the functions. I use it a lot to monitor heart rate while on the treadmill. Follow the Suunto manual closely to learn functions and to set your aerobic levels to monitor your training or any fitness level you would like to reach. Very easy to read numbers when your running tired. It picks up heart rate signal easily and holds it. And with the ugly colors still available, you'll never lose it.
By The average Joe from Fayetteville, NC on 03/01/2009 Pros: Compact GPS, Stylish Cons: Drains Battery, Expensive, No map data for software, Not very durable Describe Yourself: Athletic, Military, Practical Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: Overall, The Suunto X9 is a good watch with GPS capabilities. With that said, the battery life is poor with the GPS on. If you plan to use the GPS for over 8 Hours you will need a back-up GPS or you will have to stop somewhere and recharge the battery. I don't think the watch is durable enough for rough outdoor conditions where an impact to it is possible.
This watch does not fit the criteria for what I need it for. If you just plan to use it to track your runs or hikes, this may be perfect for you to reduce the weight of a typical GPS unit. If you do purchase, I would recommend putting a protective screen on the face of the watch.
By david2h2o from Florida on 02/25/2009 Pros: Compact Design, Easy To Use, Gives A Quick Reading, Versatile Cons: Cheapy feel for the price Best Uses: Running, Treadmill, Weight Loss Describe Yourself: Conditioning Exerciser Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Run about 5 times a week. It's been nice to push your exercise to the next level monitoring how your specific heart rate dictates your exercise. The software program is cheap and you wont be printing posters of your progress... but the summary is nice and can give you a view of your progress. Bottom line, it works pretty well. You'll spend sometime reading the manual in order to better make use of the watch. Not the most user friendly; however, get through it and it will pay off.
invest time to learn-you won't be sorry By run4yerlife from Philadelphia on 02/25/2009 Pros: Accurate, Compact Design, Gives A Quick Reading Cons: 1 battery dead on arrival, Does not pair cadence, Need much time 2 learn Best Uses: Perhaps bike speed, Running, Treadmill Describe Yourself: Conditioning Exerciser Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Match product against treadmill. Results-treadmill at 6.5mph, T3 at 6.4~6.5-great! But treadmill at 5mph, T3 varies 5.2~5.3mph. So per manual, it is accurate at the pace T3 is calibrated to. T3 is replaced by T3C which would include the Cadence pairing feature. T3 has bike, foot pod, GPS pairing. Check out Suunto website for visual aid on how to calibrate or pair this product to the foot pod and HR belt. Suunto is also reliable as I have used the T1 for over a year now (from STP) w/no problem (touch wood). Good aid for training as you will be aware of your speed displayed either in mph or min/mile. Good product for the price. Go for it!!!
