Functional, if not very stylish. But it does a GREAT job keeping the sun off your neck without having to slather up with messy, oily sunblock. I could've just bought another hat that already had a cape like this incorporated into it, but I like the cap I've already got and was glad to find this to add on to it. It beats my old method of using a handkerchief tied under my cap!
The only things I dislike about this are 1) The logo and SPF factor are embroidered into the bottom edge fairly large - tacky if you ask me. and 2) the elastic band has a tendency to "float" up and/or around on my cap. I'll probably modify it with some velcro or snaps to eliminate this.

I've met other hikers that have used one pair for several years, but after one washing I'm not sure about the durability. Very comfortable... not too hot to wear hiking in mid-day sun.
