Old World Italian Craftsmanship By Rog the Shoe Nut from Englewood, CO on 10/26/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Great Traction, Great Value, Sturdy/Durable, Warm, Water Resistant Best Uses: Amaze your co-workers, Cold Weather, Day Hiking, Everyday, Harsh Terrain, Light Loads, Long-Distance Hiking, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational, Day Hiker Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: These boots are about as close as you can come to getting something special hand-made in Italy for a great price. The workmanship is impeccable. They were comfortable to walk around in right out of the box, but look to need breaking in for any hike of more than a couple miles. Wore them at the office and they were a big hit--everyone was delighted where they came from and how easily they can be re-soled.
By The User from mid-ohio on 10/25/2009 Pros: Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Harsh Terrain, Heavy Loads, Light Loads, Long-Distance Hiking Describe Yourself: Professional/Guide Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I bought these boots because I would wear out the typical "hiking boot" in under 3 months. I average 4 miles a day with medium loads. Tennis boots were a waste of money. At [$] a pair 3 times a year, what a waste. These boot are solid built, it took a full week to break them in enough to work the laces tight. Ankle is wide but have been able to close the gap after break in. Insole is a throw away. You will need good insoles and these will fit and feel great. Steel shank is such a pleasant change from the tennis boot. My feet aren't tired at the end of the day. By Jack from New York on 10/23/2009 Pros: Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable Best Uses: Day Hiking, Heavy Loads, Light Loads, Long-Distance Hiking Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: These boots are very well made and I am sure they will last a long time. The only draw back I can see is the almost complete lack of arch support and very poor insoles. I will need to purchase a high quality insole before I can really use these boots for hiking. Great value for the money.
By Dragon from Houston, TX on 10/23/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Arch Support, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Warm, Water Resistant Best Uses: Cold Weather, Day Hiking, Everyday, Harsh Terrain, Heavy Loads, Light Loads, Long-Distance Hiking, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: These are true heavy duty boots. There is a break in period required. Wear good socks, and apply callous padding to the heels during break-in period. once their broken in, they will provide you with many years of service. My last pair lasted 15 years. Awesome boots. Have never had another brand come close.
Update on 'end of the world boots' By Alaskan hiker from Mat-Su Alaska on 10/22/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Arch Support, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Warm, Water Resistant Best Uses: Everyday, Harsh Terrain, Heavy Loads, Long-Distance Hiking, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer, Casual/Recreational Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: After several months of use these boots are, indeed, a great buy. They are the toughest boots I have found since the mid 90's when Ed Fabiano closed up. They have taken on every condition I have put them through with no problem. I use them every day cutting firewood, home construction, carrying heavy loads, and long weekend hiking trips in Southcentral Alaska. Wet, muddy, soft, hard, or unstable surfaces are no problem. Even a shopping trip to the luumber yard or store in the middle of a work day is fine because these boots are at home anywhere.
After a brief break-in they fit my feet like a glove and offer superb ankle support,no slippage chafing, or blistering. The 100% leather construction means that at the end of a 12 or 14 hour work day your feet smell fine because they are able to breathe freely. Any other lining, including Gore-tex leaves your feet not smelling so sweet.
The only thing I would have had them do differently would have been to add an achilles notch in the top rear of the collar. Other than that, no complaints. I am glad Sierra offered these and if they become available again I will certainly buy another pair to alternate with these.

Great Classic Hiking Boot! By A Crook from Tennessee on 10/20/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Comfortable/No Break-In, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Day Hiking, Everyday, Harsh Terrain Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Fantastic boots, they really don't make them like this any more. Remind me of some old school boots my mom bought in Switzerland back in the 60's... she still has them to this day!!!!! Really good looking too, they type of boot that is always stylish and classic! Not too heavy, didn't take long to break in (one day at the office), length wise great fit. Camped and hiked in them all weekend and was very happy. Dry, comfortable, sturdy. [$] Only down side for me personally was that my foot is on the narrow side, and these are a bit wide over the ball of my foot. Not so much so that I would send them back, but that is the only thing that keep these from being absolutely, without a doubt, couldn't be any better, perfect.
