Heftier than the Veggie Pak By asta from The World on 03/10/2009 Pros: Compact, Lightweight, Stable Best Uses: Backpacking, Hiking Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: If you don't have a beef with meat, you will get more bang for your caloric buck buying this pak instead of the veggie one. They both have great meals, but you'll go farther on this than the veggie one.
By asta from The World on 03/10/2009 Pros: Compact, Lightweight, Stable Best Uses: 72 hour kit, Backpacking, Hiking Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: There is nothing wrong with this kit. Just recognize that the portions are "portions" - like when the FDA tells you to only eat X ounces of something... If you require a lot of calories, or are dealing with a growing teenager, recognize that you will need extra.
By iceclimbR from eastern PA on 03/04/2009 Pros: Compact, Lightweight Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: This package is cheap, but some of the meals require a bit more than adding boiling water. This isn't very convient when you are only carrying a small cup or a jetboil PCS. I would only use this if you carry a full cookset or are car camping.
By Matt M from Dallas, TX on 03/03/2009 Pros: Compact, Durable, Lightweight, Tasty Best Uses: Backpacking, Car Camping Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Good meals. I have tried both the veggie here and the regular meals. I prefer the veggie ones. The lasagna is very good. Very cheesy. The chili is alright, but my girlfriend really likes it. The pad thai is very filling and very good. The desserts are usually too much to eat after dinner, but I like them as an unusual lunch.

By Billy the Squid from Kansas City on 01/14/2009 Cons: Non-boil-only meals inc Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This was my first venture into the prepackaged backpacking meals. I was very satisfied. A couple of the meals require more than just adding boiling water, so I haven't eaten them yet. We generally ate one of the entrees and a "side", and that kept two backpackers pretty well fed. It's probably the best I've eaten on a backpacking trip.
By Joe the Adventurer from Denver, CO on 01/09/2009 Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: In preparation for a 7-day backpack trip, I purchsed two of these. I was shocked when I read the ingredients! Most contained partially-hydrogenated oils & textured soy protein. Many others contained high-fructose corn syrup, artificial colors & preservatives. If you value your health & the quality of food you consume, look at other backpacking foods. Read labels!!
By Terra Dactyl from Irvine, CA on 01/03/2009 Pros: Compact, Easy To Clean, Lightweight Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Just follow the directions and it turns out very good. We were very happy with the taste of all of the meals that we prepared.
Great deal for survival / hikeing food By PSHYCO from Cashmere Wa on 12/29/2008 Pros: Compact, Lightweight Cons: 2 meals in 1 container Best Uses: Backpacking, Emergency supplies, Hiking Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Bought 5 of them. Like the food better than the non veg. selection. Like haveing them around the house for emergiecies, and to use hikeing. Meals are just add hot water to package, but eggs need fried. Still great value.
