By Don from Ventura, CA on 09/02/2008 Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: I've tried a few of these meals over the last couple of mountaineering trips. They bordered on inedible and were unappetizing after a hard day of climbing. Particularly avoid the "Wild West Chili". YMMV.
Just what I wanted as emergency source By Colo Kid from Phoenix on 08/24/2008 Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I originally purchased this item to be used for an emergency food supply. I am quite pleased with the assortment and can see me using the items for camping trips as well. I feel the product is a good value compared to individually purchasing the items.

Great tasting food, even spicey By Backpacking Fiend from Columbus, Ohio on 07/29/2008 Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: The veggie sides were awesome, and the entrees were spicey/flavorful. It didn't seem like I was eating freeze-dried food.

By fishkid from boston, ma on 07/24/2008 Pros: Compact, Lightweight Cons: Difficult to Clean, Unstable Best Uses: Backpacking, High Altitude, Hiking Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: no the best design. you can't stand the pouches after you add boiling water, (other brands have a flat bottom to let the boiling hot bad stand and rehydrate) also, no closure on the top (other brands have a ziplock top for letting the back stand and rehydrate) these instructions tell you to roll it over and close with a paperclip. food's not bad, but super poor design, last thing i want at the end of the day is a project to cook dinner, if i wanted to put work into dinner, i would carry real food and not sacrifice for freeze dried.
By Pork from Meridian, ID on 07/14/2008 Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: I bought this because of the savings. My wife, 2 kids & I all prefer the flavor of the Mountain House beef stroganoff and granola w/ blueberries that we can buy at Winco for about the same price. The mashed potatoes were tasteless. However, the mocha mousse was pretty tasty, though we didn't bother with adding the graham crackers and it was runny (we may have added too much water). We haven't tried the chicken meals yet; hope they have better flavor.
not your average dehydrated meal. By BWCA adventurer from minnesota on 07/12/2008 Pros: Compact, Easy To Clean, Lightweight, Stable Cons: Increase hydration times Best Uses: Backpacking, Hiking Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: beyond the memories of dehydrated foods of the past very good flavor and varriety
By The Casual Backpacker from Salt Lake City, Utah on 07/09/2008 Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: Used this package of freeze dried meals for a 3 day backpack trip in the Uintah Mountains. I was disappointed when reading the instructions to prepare the breakfast egg dishes that a fry pan was needed to cook the eggs after reconstituting the mix. Everyone else in my party had another brand and simply had to add hot water and eat. I ate oatmeal instead. I did not like the Jamaican Chicken and Rice meal. A great bargain turned out to be a miss for me.
