Tough enough for the kids to use By Jenn the Professional Tourist from Canyon Lake, Ca on 07/30/2008 Pros: Easy To Use, Functional, Good Depth Range, Water-tight Seals Best Uses: Desert riding, Diving, Snorkeling, Swimming Pool Describe Yourself: Hobbyist/Enthusiast Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: The camera is a little heavy but is fantastic. Not only are we water enthusiasts but also dirt enthusiasts. The camera's maiden voyage was a quad ride in the desert to see how land pictures turned out. WOW! It was awsome. My husband is rough on everything and it passed the test. We got some great pics of his birthday ride with his buddies. The water tight seals make it dust proof also, a definite plus.
By The Wet One from Portland, Oregon on 07/21/2008 Pros: Easy To Use, Functional, Good Depth Range Cons: Blurry Photos, Not Versatile Best Uses: Lake, Snorkeling Describe Yourself: Hobbyist/Enthusiast Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: First I purchased the camera for wet conditions not underwater. I do a lot of kayaking, canoeing, swimming, beach and hiking activities. Here in Oregon these all involve wet environments. I didn't want to chance my good SLR in say my kayak.
This camera is basically a waterproof fixed focus snapshot camera with all the limitations that entails. The depth of field after 2-3 feet is good BUT. The shutter lag is very noticeable but not as bad as many other digitial non-SLRs.The shutter speed leaves something to be desired. Definately not for fast action shots. The shutter is stiff which can cause the camera to jiggle if not held tightly. The view screen is very difficult to see in any degree of brightness. If you are used to a good digital SLR you will be hampered by the limited range of options and only an ASA of 200.
That said the pictures it does produce are pretty good but will never be prize winners. If you shot for National Geographic this is not your camera. If you want a smallish camera for decent family pictures at the beach, snorking, diving or hiking this is a good choice.
By Hayabrusa from Detroit Lakes, MN on 06/09/2008 Describe Yourself: Hobbyist/Enthusiast Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Great little camera - the one flaw that really hurts it (for my usage, anyway) is the lack of an optical viewfinder. The LCD screen is sometimes a bit hard to see in sunlight, and takes a bit to get focused. This is a (substantial) problem when trying to shoot moving fish! The underwater aspect is great - just don't forget the minimum focus distance of 2.5'. Images shared by: HayabrusaShooting too close to subject Tags: Made with Product
By beachgirl from Albany, OR on 05/15/2008 Pros: Easy To Use, Functional, Water-tight Seals Describe Yourself: Getting started Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: When snorkeling, this camera takes the best pictures in clear water when the sun is bright. By Bill from Kihei, Maui, Hawaii on 03/19/2008 Describe Yourself: Casual user Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Actually, bought for use more often while out on water to take whale photos. Results OK since we can't get any closer than 100 yards. That's where 4x helps, yet does not quite do for that situation! Hope to get to under-water use soon. cheapest real underwater camera By jun from Australia on 03/12/2008 Pros: Easy To Use, Functional, Good Depth Range, Water-tight Seals Cons: Blurry Photos, Short Battery Life, Very poor image quality Best Uses: Diving, Snorkeling Describe Yourself: Casual user Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: Pros: It's good price for a real underwater camera that is for scuba. And it is shock proof too.
Cons: You still get what you paid for. The image quality is very poor. Tiny lens and 6m CCD combination is just a joke. It even doesn't come with focus, you can only choose lanscape or macro mode so you can expect most of the pics are out of focus. It can dive deep but you will need an external flash when you are that deep, and for snorkeling, I would recommend some other cameras with better image quality such as pantex or olympus waterproof models instead.
By Julie from Park City, UT on 01/02/2008 Pros: Easy To Use, Functional, Good Depth Range, Water-tight Seals Cons: uses lots of batteries Best Uses: Diving, Lake, Snorkeling Describe Yourself: Hobbyist/Enthusiast Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Overall, great camera - takes great pictures AND video in and out of the water... does go through batteries quickly, but it's perfect for watery outings!
By Waterboy from Athens, GA on 12/06/2007 Pros: Durable, Handy size, Unique Design Cons: Pictures could be better, Viewfinder would be nice Best Uses: Outdoors, Wet conditions Describe Yourself: Bargain Hunter, Bottom feeder, Class 3 boater Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I’m not a diver. I bought the ECO Shot to carry on white water canoeing trips. The weight and rubber armor make the camera look and feel rugged. Other waterproof digital cameras seem as fragile as their non-waterproof cousins. The ECO Shot is just small enough to fit in a shirt pocked. I think its pictures are not great but are acceptable, especially in bright sun where I hope to be paddling. I believe that LCD screens on cameras are hard to use by folks who wear bifocal glasses. A viewfinder would be a good addition to the design. The camera doesn’t float so I’ll need to come up with some sort of retention system that will keep it handy but safe.
