By lovesmyshoes from Seattle, WA on 06/24/2009 Pros: Durable, Great Traction Best Uses: Everyday, Paved Trails, Rocky/Unstable Terrain Describe Yourself: Recreational Walker/Hiker Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I have purchased and worn many pairs of Lowa shoes over the years. They are consistently sized (1/2 size large) and wear well. I have been happy with every pair I've owned.
I do use a superfeet footbed in all pairs, as that helps to take up some volume and support my foot appropriately. I highly recommend them. I use them for everyday and hiking - depending on the situation. I get compliments constantly, because they are very cute, too.
nice shoe so far; will it last? By bioteacher from southwest Missouri on 06/23/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Great Traction Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Sizing: Feels half size too big Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I bought these because they were described as better made and my last hiking boots fell apart way too soon. Having only worn them for one trip I can't verify the durability. Warned by other reviews, I ordered a 9 instead of a 9 1/2 and the size was right. My narrow heel does slip; worse because this is a shoe not a boot; I also missed the ankle support of a boot but appreciated the lighter weight.
No break-in time and very comfy By Sandy from New York City on 06/22/2009 Pros: Comfortable/No Break-In, Flexible, Water Resistant Best Uses: Day Hiking, Light Loads, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational Sizing: Feels half size too big Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Just got these so can't really make any comments as to long-term performance, but they are very comfortable with virtually no break-in time. Ankle and arch support seem less than most hiking boots -- these feel almost more like high sneakers -- therefore they are best suited to day hikes and shorter distances on easy to moderate terrain rather than serious backpacking or difficult terrain. For my needs -- mostly day hikes and birdwatching -- they should be just fine.
I buy Lowa boots again and again..great! By Gardener from Catskill mountains, NY on 06/22/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Comfortable/No Break-In, Flexible, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Water Resistant Cons: Add my own arch support Best Uses: Day Hiking, Everyday, Harsh Terrain, Heavy Loads, Light Loads, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational, Gardener, Professional/Guide Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Good fit, support, performance and always have dry feet in the rain...thank you for making great boots...Lowa!
By Nonna from Blythewood, South Carolina on 06/22/2009 Pros: Arch Support, Durable, Great Traction, Shock-Absorbent, Stabilizes Foot Best Uses: All Weather Conditions, Everyday, Mixed Terrain, Muddy Conditions, Rocky/Unstable Terrain Describe Yourself: Recreational Walker/Hiker Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I purchased the product to replace a pair of 8 year old Lowa's I had (which I loved). I use these shoes for my daily dog walks on dirt and gravel roads. The Tempest are much stiffer than I anticipated and will require some break-in. They've done fine so far support-wise etc. but it's too early to tell if I would recommend them.
By shopdog from Athens, GA on 06/22/2009 Pros: Arch Support, Durable Describe Yourself: Recreational Walker/Hiker Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: Some internal seams were roughly finished and cut into the foot during use, causing pain and discomfort.
It helps me a lot in mountain-climbing. I probably would buy this product again, By sami from Santa Curz, CA on 06/20/2009 Pros: Great Traction, Stabilizes Foot Best Uses: Mixed Terrain, Paved Trails Describe Yourself: Recreational Walker/Hiker Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I use these shoes to replace my old Lowas. They seem to be fine so far. The insole is removable so I can use my own orthotics.
By Spike from Kansas City, KS on 06/18/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Arch Support, Comfortable/No Break-In, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Day Hiking, Harsh Terrain, Long-Distance Hiking, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I bought these for a week long hike in the mountains of the Isle of Skye, Scotland. We hiked for 6 hours or so every day over varying terrain. We had a professional guide so this was not just a stroll along a walking path. I even stepped ankle high in to a bog one day with both feet. Pulled my feet out and went on my way. By the end of the hike the boots were dry as were my feet, and the mud was gone. I have bad ankles and flat arches and these boot were very supportive. I did not have to wear my arch support with them.
