Luminox

Luminox

In 1989, Luminox founder Barry Cohen brought a unique Swiss-designed, self-powered illumination system into the mainstream watch market, now called "Luminox Light Technology." This innovative, self-powered gas capsule illumination system will actually glow continuously in a watch for more than 25 years and requires no outside light source to "charge," unlike traditional luminescent watch materials. In fact, Luminox watches are so reliable and well made, they are chosen by elite branches of the US armed forces, from Stealth aircraft pilots to SEAL dive teams. If you insist on the quality of a Luminox watch but don’t want to pay full price for one, shop Sierra Trading Post for an ever-changing selection of Luminox watches.

Luminox Executive Traveller Watch (For Men)

Battery Dead x 2
By PhilVerified Reviewer from New Jersey on 06/23/2009
Pros:
Adjustable Watchband, Good Quality, Looks Nice, Stylish
Cons:
Battery dead
Describe Yourself:
High End Shopper, Pilot, Practical, Stylish
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Comments:
The battery was DOA on the first watch I ordered, then the replacement watch arrived, and that battery was dead as well! I gave up and went with a Casio Wave-Ceptor WVA-M240DE-1BVER, as it meets my occupational needs.

Good value. Nice looking. Accurate
By Tim the rower from San Jose, CA on 06/14/2009
Pros:
Easy to read, Extra features, Good Quality, Reliable, Stylish
Best Uses:
Everyday
Describe Yourself:
Athletic, Classic, Practical
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Comments:
I have observed the same problem in other Luminox watches: their second hands don't line up with the indices in parts of the dial. It's not a major problem--just noticeable to sticklers like some of us. But the price is an excellent value, especially when compared to other tritium-vial watches. Handsome looks, sturdy case and incredible readability in low- or no-light conditions. The 24-hour hand is a nice extra feature. There are double tritium indicators at 12 o'clock which makes it even easier to read. So far, after a few weeks, the timekeeping is top notch: less than a second fast.

Luminox Field Sport Timer Watch (For Men)

Pretty good when compared.
By Tim the rower from San Jose, CA on 06/10/2009
Pros:
Easy To Read, Good Quality, Reliable, Stylish
Cons:
Hand alignment
Best Uses:
Everyday
Describe Yourself:
Athletic, Classic, Modern, Practical
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Comments:
As others have commented on the Luminox watches, mine had poor alignment of the second hand to the the indices. It's a sign of poor quality but it is not important to me for this watch. The accuracy of the timekeeping is excellent after about two weeks: no change compared to radio-controlled clock. Visibility's incredible. Essentially the same price as a plastic body Marathon with tritium vials but looks a lot better. The blue dial is striking and handsome. I replaced the stainless bracelet with a leather strap so I can't comment on the bracelet's functionality, but the bracelet looks like excellent quality. It has 20 mm strap width at the horns. Many of us would expect a screw-down crown in a watch like this--not present. However it may keep watertight just as well without screwing down if it is precisely built. I haven't tested it with a wet challenge beyond washing dishes, however.

Comments:
I wear it everyday. It seemed heavy at first, but after a day or two I didn't even notice. Very well made, accurate, and easy to set. My only complaint is the crown has sometimes opened, inadvertently changing the date.

Excellent!
By IronmanVerified Reviewer from Colorado on 05/11/2009
Pros:
Easy To Read, Good Quality, Reliable, Sapphire crystal
Best Uses:
Everyday, Travel
Describe Yourself:
Athletic, Classic, High End Shopper, Practical, Stylish
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Comments:
I put an Italian rubber strap on it and like it even more. I'm not crazy about the original metal band. I love watches in general and haven't seen a Luminox at this price before. The sapphire crystal is also a big bonus as most have a mineral crystal which can scratch more easily.

Cons:
Heavy
Best Uses:

Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:

Comments:
I had been looking for a watch with good luminescence (but didn't want an Indiglo) when I got this watch as a gift. It was just what I wanted and was immidiately pleased. I love the stainless steel case and band and the clasp is solid. I love the simple and clear hour indicators, and with the bright luminescent capsules it is easy to ready any time of day, and the 24-hour hand is handy feature for me. The stops on the rotating bezel coincide with the hour and minute marks precicely, which show that this is a well-made, well thought-out device. A side story: I wore the watch for about three weeks until it ingested some water during a hotsprings soak, and I have no idea why. I tried to dry it out but it quit after a week. I went to the LumiNox website to check out their warranty policies and when I read how stringent and particular they are I was not optimistic that I would get my new favorite watch fixed without a lot more cash. I took my dead watch and all the paperwork to the Meridian store and they exchanged it without question. There wasn't one in stock but they ordered me a brand new one and it was on my wrist in three days. STP Rocks!
