Not Floral, Not Shirt, Lovely Jacket By scaryblondechick from New York, NY on 06/21/2009 Pros: Attractive Design, Comfortable, Stylish Best Uses: Going Out, Office, Travel Describe Yourself: Classic, High-end shopper, Practical Chest Size: Feels true to size Length: Feels true to length Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Floral? Um ... no, it's houndstooth. Nor is it precisely a "shirt-jacket" - though I see why it's described that way, since with the belt buckled it wouldn't be easy to slip on and off as a jacket, but it's much heavier than a shirt ought to be. Wear it in situations where you won't be expected to take your jacket off.
Reading other reviews, I note size issues. I didn't find this too big at all - on the contrary, I normally wear an 8, and the 10 in this jacket fits wonderfully. But I have an athletic, broad-shouldered build, so that may have something to do with it. Other than shoulders, the body is roomy and cut more like jacket than shirt.
I agree that the included belt is dreadful, far more cheaply made than the jacket itself. I have an easy solution to this: wear one of your own. The loops will accommodate up to a 2" leather belt; I had one that goes perfectly on hand.
So: four stars for my purposes - but someone with a smaller build or who wants to toss it on and off won't find it so nice.
By Ginger from Connecticut on 06/16/2009 Pros: Attractive Design, Comfortable, Nice Fabric Best Uses: Special Occasions, Wear To Work Describe Yourself: Casual Dresser Comfort vs Style: Comfort Driven Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: A lovely dress. The color, sadly, did not work for me. It is a mixture of black and camel, and although it is a pretty shade of camel, I was looking for taupe. Too yellow for my skin. A great dress otherwise.
By Biker Chick from Indiana on 06/15/2009 Pros: Attractive Design, Comfortable, Durable, Stylish Best Uses: Going Out, Office, Travel, Work Meetings Describe Yourself: Classic, Comfort-oriented, High-end shopper, Practical, Stylish Chest Size: Feels true to size Length: Feels true to length Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Very flattering, comfortable and something that this 40 something woman will wear for years to come. I am on the small side, size 2, and this jacket has the right pattern size and simple styling that flatters the smaller face and frame. Very lovely piece.
By Beth from Houston, TX on 06/03/2009 Cons: Irregular Size, Poor Material Describe Yourself: High-end shopper Sleeve Length: Feels too long Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: Belt is extremely cheap looking. Jacket is bulky.
I returned the jacket.
By lightdoc from Chicago on 05/27/2009 Describe Yourself: Classic Dresser Sizing: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels too long Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: This looked great in the picture, but it is denim sewed to a net backing, not very well done, the raw edges look messy, and the jacket has a tie instead of a button, which is placed too high, so that the jacket hangs poorly when tied, and with the long strings, can't be worn open. Too bad, normally I love Maggy London, their jackets are mostly wonderful, well made, good design.

I am larger on top and shorter waisted and it would have been very difficult to have had altered. Beautiful color and fun print!

By workingmom from boston, ma on 05/08/2009 Pros: Nice Color, Nice Fabric, Versatile Describe Yourself: Trendy/Stylish Dresser Comfort vs Style: Comfort Driven Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: This is a nice dress, pretty color, nice fabric. It did not fit me lengthwise. I am average height (5'5"), and the dress fell a bit too much past the knee, it did not look right. I will probably look nice on someone taller.
