Mountainsmith

Mountainsmith

If necessity is the mother of invention, frustration could easily be the father. Mountainsmith founder Patrick Smith was motivated by both when he tried to find a functional, durable backpack that was easy to carry in the 1970’s. When the bags he tried came up short on comfort and convenience, he began building his own. Since that time, Mountainsmith has become a leader in travel systems built to take the rigors of the journey, from rugged trails to baggage carousels. From their signature bright yellow linings (to help you find what you need in the dark) to hundreds of user-friendly extras, Mountainsmith makes innovative packs, camera bags and luggage for travelers who like to stay comfortably organized. Take the burden off your back and your wallet, wherever you roam, with a quality bag or pack from Mountainsmith.

We bought the 4-bag Hauler from STP a couple of months ago. Then started seeing just the bags on sale. I bought as many as I could! We use them for all of our outdoor activities now. No they are not water proof. But havent had any thing get wet yet:-)

Bottom Line:

Comments:
i use this bag for a canon D20 with lens on. the camera body and lens fits in the bottom portion and there is room for some stuff in the top portion of the bag. this was by biggest concern when buying that the camera can all stay together in one piece when in the bag.

great product -- have 3 of them
By roadtripper from va on 06/23/2009
Pros:
Easy To Access Items, Easy To Carry, Easy To Identify, Good Capacity, High Quality
Best Uses:
Family Trips, Long Vacations, Weekend Trips
Primary use:
Personal
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Comments:
These are great for road trips. My wife and I started out with a 4-cube carrier, liked it so much that we got another, and then once our baby came along added another 3-cube carrier. These are great for keeping things separated during long or gear-intensive road trips. You can select what you want to bring into the hotel for any given night w/o lugging everything in. This may sound like a lot of positivity for just bags, but these are a sleeper hit in my view.

Mountainsmith Parallax Camera Pack

Best Photo Pack I've Found
By Bob The BearVerified Reviewer from Bradenton Fl on 06/23/2009
Pros:
Adjustable Harness, Comfortable, Roomy, Strong Construction
Cons:
Hard To Access Equipment
Best Uses:
Protecting Gear, Storing Gear, Transporting Gear
Describe Yourself:
Photo Enthusiast
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Comments:
I was looking for a slightly larger photo pack than I could find locally. I use multiple lenses constantly, so I need them with me. The Mountainsmith fills that bill well. It also carries a laptop, which is a bonus for me, because I travel far from home and need a laptop to stay in touch. The only downside is that the laptop pocket seems to have obliged the maker to put the inner compartment access behind the back pad and straps, meaning that you have to put the pack down and unzip the entire carrying surface to access the photo equipment. It's also possible to put a lot of weight, fully loaded, in the pack, but the pack is still portable with that reservation. That's not much of a squawk, given the flexibility of the unit. It's a lot of pack for the money.

Think it will be good for travel. Able to put discs and battery charger as well as camera. Attachment for strap is a weak area. Made of plastic I'm afraid it will tear.

Once my wife used these on the way to a white water rafting trip last weekend, she raved about how great they organized our family of four's stuff. It made a difference in our trunk and really worked well. We are using them everyday now.

The camera bag is small and convenient. I hope high quality, that we will see about. I use it daily simply to protect the camera so am not concerned about space limitations - and it is just about perfect for my Nikon SLR with a compact zoom.
