By Russ from Pittsburgh on 05/12/2009 Pros: Smooth Drag System, Smooth Reeling Describe Yourself: Avid Fisher Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Lamson's Velocity V4 is a poor man's version of a big-fish busting reel. I chose it mainly for price over the Big O Company and similar reels. Like all large arbors it inhales line, and it has a strong pickup, although it does slip slowly with 10# on(show me a reel that doesn't costing less than [$]). I prefer it over the earlier Lamson Radius because it has a clearly defined drag knob - 2 full turns. You would have to mark the knob yourself or look at the graphics though - nbd. It has a slight wobble gap in tolerance between reel and housing, not enough to matter in my opinion. Should be a good fish-fighting reel for sea species 20# plus. OK, but may be overkill for bones. Stores 250 yds of 30 lb backing plus line.
Very attractive and useful By DT from Billings, MT on 05/08/2009 Pros: Attractive Design, Durable Best Uses: Kitchen, Living Room, Office, Outdoors Describe Yourself: Budget Shopper Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I liked this so much I purchased two more for my daughters.
Bought three for me and my girls By The hostess with the best from San Joaquin Valley, CA on 05/01/2009 Pros: Attractive Design, Unique Describe Yourself: Budget Shopper Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Our daughter made something similiar years ago and we are still using it. Have been trying to find like the one she made and this is the closest at the best price. We love it for kitchen and outdoors (keeps the wind from blowing napkins everywhere) Only one disavantage - it does not have anything to keep the lever to hold down napkins on the two posts.
By schnitzerphoto from Lander, WY on 05/01/2009 Pros: Reliable, Smooth Drag System, Smooth Reeling Describe Yourself: Professional Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Hard to beat this Waterworks reel for the money. Well worth it.
A quality reel, but needs refinement By fishtale nimrod from Jackson, WY on 04/30/2009 Pros: Durable, Smooth Drag System Cons: Not as smooth as others Describe Yourself: Professional Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: A quality reel, but lacks the refinement of other reels in the price range. I found the click annoying, and the initial start up on the drag poor. However, the drag system seems to be smooth and sensitive, once engaged, and the reel should be adequate for almost all fishing conditions. Quality of construction is good, and it is an innovative design.
By Russell from Pgh, PA on 04/30/2009 Pros: Durable, Reliable, Smooth Drag System Describe Yourself: Avid Fisher Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I purchased this reel and another to compare. I own and like a Lamson Radius 3.5. This is a well built reel with good tolerances. However, I found it was not quick at picking up line since it is not a large arbor. It is kind of wide and would store a fair amount of backing, but I was looking for a reel with a LA. I did send it back. If looking for a mid-size with decent storage and have a specific fishing scenario in mind this would be a good reel.
By fishslime from Little Rock,AR on 04/27/2009 Pros: Durable, Reliable, Smooth Drag System, Smooth Reeling Describe Yourself: Avid Fisher Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This is a well matched reel for a 4 wt rod. The large arbor would only allow about 80 ft of backing with a 90 ft wt forward line. Smooth drag-Lamson probably makes the best internal drag in the business. You won't find it at a better price.
