I lined the bed with a foam pad, covered it with a towel and my cat started using the bed. She prefers it over my bed--I'm very pleased.

He won't go in it yet. I usually takes him quite awhile before he will use something new. I like it. I hope he wil eventually. It is very well made and should stand up to hard use.

petmate might consider selling this bed with a soft mat for seniors, otherwise its wonderful!
