Excellent Rod! Very nice finish! By Fred Aspen from SLC, UT on 06/12/2009 Pros: Accurate Casting, Durable, Easy To Transport, Good Tip Action, Sensitive Best Uses: Fly Fishing, River Fishing, Small Fish Describe Yourself: Avid Fisher Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Finally, a rod whose real 'weight' is as advertised! I have had other graphite rods that said 5 wt. but actually measured 7 wt. This is a very nice rod and is definitely a very good value for the money.
Quality rod. Great price. Great action By Basecamp Gangtok from Northeastern USA on 05/26/2009 Pros: Accurate Casting, Easy To Transport, Good Tip Action, Great for short casts, Quality construction, Sensitive Cons: Very low quality cork Describe Yourself: Avid Fisher Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This is a great rod, especially at STP price. I have always admired Powell products. This one is no different. Great quality and craftsmanship almost every part of the rod. Except, the cork. Powell used poor quality cork on this rod. I have seen better cork on many rod that cost half (MSRP). Cork started falling apart after only a few fishing trips.
Anyway, over all its great quality rod in terms of action, casting distance and accuracy. I bought two in 5 and 6 wt. Powell covers this rod under their "limited life time warranty". So, if the cork or any other parts fail, you can get a replacement for a reasonable shipping and handling cost.
Powell Ti Max 4pc. 9' - 5wt By Rod from San Jose, CA on 05/14/2009 Pros: Accurate Casting, Easy To Transport, Sensitive Best Uses: Fly Fishing, River Fishing Describe Yourself: Avid Fisher Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Very smooth and accurate casting rod at all distances. Feels very light in hand. Enjoyable to use.
By troutman from San Jose Ca. on 05/13/2009 Pros: Good all around action, Great caster, price, Well made rod Best Uses: Great pack rod, Just fish it you'll know Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I bought the rod for short pack trips into the sierra's (my two piece sage rods are to bulky at times)I thought I'd try the 4 piece thing out.Well got to say i was impressed with the construction,Good cork, nice reel seat w/nickle hardware,10 guides with 1 stripper(realy 2 strippers dont count the second)and it cast's real well, action on the rod was very good. very happy and supprised.[$]
Sweet rod for the money!! By Tight Lines from Boston, MA on 05/10/2009 Pros: Accurate Casting, Casts as well as my sage, Powerful even in wind Best Uses: Fly Fishing, Ocean Fishing Describe Yourself: Avid Fisher Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This rod is an amazing bargain. I own a 9 wt. It casts beautifully even in stiff winds and has a great finish. The stripping guides are a little less strudy than I'd like but at this price, even if I had to replace them I'd be ahead of the game. Bought this rod as a backup to 2 much more expensive rods but find it casts almost as well as my primary rods.
By Marcus from North Carolina on 05/07/2009 Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I have an older two piece, two tip Powell rod that cost over $400 twenty years ago. This new SSL rod casts just as nicely, finish and fittings of similar quality, has the packing advantages of a 4 piece and is less than 1/4 of the price of my old rod. How can you beat that?
By indy from northeast TN on 05/04/2009 Pros: Action on rod is medium, Finish of rod is good, Handling is good, Quality of rod is good Best Uses: Flyfishing for trout Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Use it for fishing larger streams for 12 inch + trout
Quality for the price is better than expected
Handles and looks like higher priced rods
By Dangri from Arkansas on 05/04/2009 Pros: Appears to be well built, This rod is very light Cons: Made in China, Unattractive reel seat Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I used this and was impressed with it's lightness and smooth silky feel. I have several Powell rods and they are my go to rods over my Orvis and Sage rods. The only thing I don't like is the ugly wood reel seat. I am not sure what type of wood it is but it is not very attractive. My other Powell rods were made in the U.S. but this one was made in China.
By Pennypincher from Vacaville, CA on 04/27/2009 Pros: Accurate Casting, Easy To Transport, Good Tip Action, Sensitive Describe Yourself: Casual Fisher Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Everything works so well I bought a 4 weight and a 6 weight. Reel seat is not bad just not the easiest to use. Casts well for me but some find it leans toward medium action and they like a faster action. I loved the price.
