By Dreamer from 29 Palms, CA on 09/19/2008 Best Uses: On wood furniture Describe Yourself: Budget Shopper Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: My husband has been known to throw coasters across the room when they stick to the bottom of his glass. To save our sanity, I bought these coasters and they have been a blessing. He begged me to buy more and when I went back onto STP they were gone. So I bought some souvenir sandstone coasters with the picture on top which don't absorb half as well as these. I was very excited to see that STP is carrying the coasters again and I am going to buy a few more sets so I can have them in every room in my house.
By Mr. Scrapes Knife on Rock from Laramie, Wy on 09/08/2008 Pros: AlOx not SiC, Better than Smith's, Good novaculite, Quiet wood base Cons: Comes unglued, Could be bigger Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I'm a serious freehand sharpener for about a year. This product competes with the Smith's tri-hone. I like it better because the solid wooden base is quieter than hollow plastic, and aluminum oxide gives a nicer finish than silicon carbide. On the downside, honing oil eventually causes the glue to let go, but these days I like to pick the stone up in my hand and use it dry anyway. This price is a great bargain for the stones alone.
By A Really Knife Guy from Napoopoo, HI on 08/11/2008 Pros: Comfortable Grip, Compact, Durable, Easy To Use Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: So, I've used this produce about 10 or so times now and I couldn't be happier with it. I have several other sharpening stones/systems including diamond dust cards, ceramic rods, etc. and these Arkensas stones are by far better than all others. I can see why the Native Americans were so fond of using it...it works.
A Really Top Quality Stone By Jim D. from Linwood, N.C. on 05/18/2008 Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I'm a wood carver. Anything less than "scary sharp" is unacceptable. To achieve and maintain the kind of edge I need takes a particularly hard stone. I found the "Translucent Arkansas" to be the equivalent of imported stones that I'd paid six to eight times as much for.
It is listed as a visual "2nd"... that didn't impair its use or value at all.

By FieldsportFred from Michigan on 04/10/2008 Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I've needed a new whetstone for a while. This is a really nice one at a discounted price. The cedar box lends a nice touch.

By JRJ from Lewisville, TX on 03/05/2008 Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: The only problem I had was the lid was warped about 1-2mm's on the left corner. The stone was flat, grey and had no defects. Considering I saved 70% for a very popular product I consider this an unbelievable buy!
