Great Little Pack for an Amazing Price By Jeff from Columbus, OH on 03/31/2009 Pros: Functional, Lightweight, Stylish, Well Designed Best Uses: Fly Fishing, Fresh Water, Salt Water, Wading Describe Yourself: Avid Fisher Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This is a great little pack at an unbeatable price. It's totally functional with the fly fisherman in mind. It's got a built in zinger for snips or anything else you might need. It's lightweight, comfortable, and sytlish. Multiple pockets allow for plenty of storage for leaders, indicators, thermometer, ect. The velcro attached foam in the front pocket is nice for streamers, or any other fly. My only complaint would be that your not going to take out multiple fly boxes in this thing. It's holds just one large streamer box, or two to three small trout boxes, but with the foam in the front pocket you should have plenty for any trip out on the water. By William from San Jose, Ca on 03/31/2009 Pros: Durable, Easy To Maintain, Easy To Use, Functional Best Uses: Fresh Water, Traveling Describe Yourself: Casual Fisher Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I was looking for a day pack that would hold two bottles for hiking. This came in a little larger than I had expected (tough to tell size in pictures unless you read the measurements) but I like it better this way. Nice and durable, with a great strap which allows you to sling it over your shoulder for fishing for hiking.
Great pack for all day outings! By MG from Trenton from Trenton, NJ on 03/29/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Functional, Roomy, Slick design Best Uses: Fly Fishing, Hikingfishing Describe Yourself: Avid Fisher Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Like many of you, I'm sure, I've spent much of my fishing career looking for the perfect pack. I've owned 3 or 4 vests, and 4 different fishing back packs. For me, the WJ Escape pack is the perfect design.
I do a lot of small stream fishing which involves hiking as well as fishing. I'm often out for 4-5 hours, and want something that will carry rain gear and my lunch as well as fly boxes and the normal stuff. With other packs, my shoulders would often get sore by the end of the day.
The Escape handles all of these things beautifully. It has a lighweight frame with a suspension belt that shifts a lot of the weight to your hips. The elastic mesh suspension moves the pack off your back and allows air to circulate (making it cooler on a hot day). It also means that boxes you stuff into the pack don't gouge you.
Finally , the front pockets are cleverly designed. The tippet pocket, which holds half a dozen spools works extremely well.
If you like to spend the whole day out, miles from your car, I don't think there's a better pack on the market.
By APC from Olympia, WA on 03/24/2009 Pros: Durable, Easy To Maintain, Easy To Use, Functional Best Uses: Fresh Water, Salt Water Describe Yourself: Avid Fisher Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This is a generally well-contructed and roomy bag that can be used both as a fanny pack and a chest pack. It has a wide padded lumbar belt. The bag is quite functional with multiple compartments, two built-in removable zingers, a large fold-down foam fly shelf and dual water bottle holders. It has a tippet dispenser that has limited utility, since the compartment will not zip shut with more than 2-3 tippet spools mounted inside, but you can put in more spools without affixing them to the dispenser. The pack is solid overall, except that the plastic pull tab on one of my pack's water bottle bungees pulled free, apparently because the flimsy tab was cracked at a stress point. I removed both tabs and fashioned a simple cord pull on each bungee that work and look fine. All the other tabs and stress points are considerably more solid than the two I replaced, so I don't anticipate further problems. This bag is about half the price of its Fishpond competitor and has more room to boot. The Fishpond does have some compression straps which might be helpful under some circumstances, but are certainly not necessary in a pack this size.
By jbo from Wyoming on 03/23/2009 Pros: Durable, Easy To Use Cons: Poor Design, Too large Describe Yourself: Avid Fisher Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: Nice compartments but sticks out way too far from your chest so you cannot see those slippery slopes around the water. given its size does not carry that much gear.

By Just starting out from Wassaic, NY on 03/19/2009 Pros: Durable, Easy To Use, Functional Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I took this pack out on the stream the other day and loved it. I'm just starting out flyfishing and the pack was a definite plus. The main pack that holds your flys and tippit material works as a chest pack that folds down so you can change flys easer. I bought a vest prior to this pack and I am far happier with this sling pack. Plenty of room and it's comfortable.
By Tenstiger from Arkansas on 03/11/2009 Pros: Durable, Easy To Maintain, Easy To Use, Functional Describe Yourself: Avid Fisher Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Best small pack I have ever used. Large enough for an all day trip but small enough to forget you are wearing it. Can't be without it.
Nicely built and plenty of room By long rods rock from SE PA on 03/09/2009 Describe Yourself: Avid Fisher Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I have not used this yet, but it looks to be of good quality and seems like it will be durable. This pack has a bit more room than a chest pack. I have tried chest packs but I can't quite fit enough into them to feel like I've got everything I will need.
