Green Option in Headlamps
By KnoxtigerlilyVerified Reviewer from Knoxville TN on 09/21/2008
Pros:
Adjustable Beam, Bright, Stable
Cons:
Bulky
Describe Yourself:
Casual Adventurer
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Comments:
A great option for 'green consumers' because the lamp can be charged via electric outlet or by hand cranking (especially helpful when camping). Batteries are optional. It is a little bulky because you carry the charger, but easily clips to your pants or backpack. Pleasantly surprised to find out it had 3 adjustments--bright, normal and flash mode.

I was excited to receive my package from ST at my door and immediately set to try out my new lantern. After about 30 seconds of cranking (which was incredibly easy if I can add a positive) the handle came off in my hand. No way that I could tell to jam it back on so it's going right back in the box it came in and shipping out tomorrow.

Good product for the discount price
By Mt. topping Tony from Central Illinois on 09/04/2008
Pros:
Adjustable Beam, Long battery life, Stable
Cons:
Dim
Best Uses:
Backpacking, Car Camping, Day trip, Hiking
Describe Yourself:
Avid Adventurer
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Comments:
I like the feature of having the computer charge or hand crank option just in case. Really came in hand in the RMNP from which I just returned. I got a great deal for the discounted price. Full price a bit rich for my blood and the beam was weak compared to my teammates headlamps (various major brands) but it got the job done!

Reliable emergency headlamp

Pros:
Adjustable Beam, Bright, Durable, Long battery life, Stable
Best Uses:
Backpacking, Car Camping, Day trip, Hiking
Describe Yourself:
Casual/ Recreational
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Comments:
This was my emergency headlamp for a Franconia day hike that turned into an epic. Steep scrambles in the dark are no fun, but this was a good light. Ran for 2+ hours with no cranking on a full charge from a month plus earlier. It was dimming and could've used cranking near the end, but we just wanted out of there! Anyway, only real complaint was the cord from the headlamp to the battery pack. I clipped the battery pack onto the back of the headstrap, but the cord flapped and whipped around a bit. Next time, I'd take some time before hitting the trail to figure out how to tie it back/ strap it down best. Definitely a fixture in the emergency kit though, and a good choice for an occasional trail headlamp if you don't like carrying batteries along.

Apex Technologies Dynamo Mini Lantern - Camping-Emergency

Lot of winding, not so much light
By Hiker chickVerified Reviewer from Cambridge, MA on 09/04/2008
Pros:
Compact, Lightweight
Cons:
Flimsy Design, Poor Light Output
Best Uses:
Backcountry Camping, Emergencies, Survival
Describe Yourself:
Casual/ Recreational
What Is Your Gear Style:
Minimalist
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Comments:
This is a small lantern. That's not bad in itself, but light output did not even compare with the other hand-crank flashlights we had. As much and often as we cranked it, still not bright enough to really light even the camp table or tent. We are keeping the crank flashlights, and bought a Coleman rechargeable lantern for base camp use. May return this one.

Compact and wind-up, a great combination
By Wending My WayVerified Reviewer from Monterey Bay area, CA on 09/02/2008
Pros:
Easy to Use, Lightweight, Versatile
Cons:
Scuffed in package
Best Uses:
Commuting, Long Rides
Describe Yourself:
Avid Cyclist
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Comments:
Haven't had it very long so I can't attribute to its durability, but so far, I'm very pleased with it. It also can double as a pocket sized flashlight, easily detaches from bike mount. Windup mechanism is easy to use. Never needs batteries, so you will never be stuck with a dying light out in the middle of nowhere. On arrival, it was strangely dusty on the inside of the package, smelled strongly of chemicals and was curiously scuffed, but packaging was intact and product works just fine. The smell has gone away soon after opening.

We purchased the Adirondack chairs in the spring and were very excited to see the footrests back on STP. These chairs and footrests are an unbelievable value! Very sturdy, very comfortable. Just used some teak oil to enhance the waterproofing.
