By Kuba from New Haven, CT on 04/12/2009 Pros: Attractive Design, Comfortable, Durable, Good Cut, Warm Best Uses: Bad Weather, Daily Use, Travel, Winter activities Describe Yourself: Casual Dresser Sizing: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This is a great fleece jacket, by far the best fitting one I have tried on (I am 5'10", 160lbs and medium fits perfectly). The construction is top notch, all details worked out just right. Made of windpro, so it is not exactly windproof but decently wind resistant. It is very very warm, so I wouldn't plan on using it for hiking in the summer months, but for winter, even as a stand-alone piece, it's great.
Great fleece, order one size up. By mountaingoat from Washington on 04/02/2009 Pros: Attractive Design, Durable, Good Cut, Lightweight, Versatile, Warm Best Uses: Daily Use, Going Out, Outdoor Activities, Travel Describe Yourself: Casual Dresser Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This is a great coat... I ordered an XL because of other reviews I read that said 66 North runs small. I almost always take a Large (6'2", 185lb) but the XL fits perfect.
By Head Researcher from Ann Arbor, MI on 03/24/2009 Pros: Attractive Design, Comfortable, Durable, Good Cut, Lightweight, Warm Best Uses: Bad Weather, Daily Use, Travel Describe Yourself: Classic Dresser Sizing: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I was surprised at both how light and how warm this jacket is. I am very impressed with 66 North, and now own two coats and a lighter fleece layer as well. They are expensive, but very well made.
By Value critique from Shelton, CT on 01/12/2009 Pros: Attractive Design, Durable, Lightweight, Warm Describe Yourself: Classic Dresser Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: Warmth provided is good but it is tight at the hands over a full sleeve shirt. Moreover, the collar quality can be improved.
By Normal guy from NYC surburban area on 01/02/2009 Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: I was mislead by previous reviewers who indicated that the jacket was cut large. It isn't! I went for the large size but should have gone for the X-large. 6', 195#s guy here.
However the biggest disappointment was the zipper. Very complex and difficult to operate and is configured like a woman's jacket rather than a man's jacket. I returned jacket noting that zipper maybe defective.
By meg from Maine on 12/26/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Lightweight, Warm, Windproof Best Uses: Casual Wear, Cold Weather, Hiking and Camping, Skiing/Snowboarding, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: High end outdoor gear at a great price.
By aLee from New Berlin, WI on 12/24/2008 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Lightweight, Warm, Windproof Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: First of all, VERY nice looking and stylish. Its very elegant and although the color is a bit different than in the picture but its still very nice. Very lightweight and comfortable. I tested it in like 10 below zero weather with winds of about 30-40 mph and it kept me comfortably warm. The hood is very nice as it averts the wind. Its much better looking than any down filled jacket or the run of the mill brand name jackets available. You have to wait for the price to be right but its worth the cost.
By Kemper from Clear, Alaska on 12/17/2008 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Recommend to a friend, Warm Cons: Not ExtremActive-Friendly Best Uses: Casual Wear, Cold Weather, Extreme Conditions Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This is a great coat. I would not pay the full price for it. This is my first 66 North gear and the coat does live up to the goal of the company. The only drawback is that the zipper jams a little and it takes a while to put on. It is VERY warm, I'm in Alaska, and blocks the wind well, but I wouldn't take it hiking or backpacking (wrong cut). I would wear it for short easy hikes. It breathes well and offers great face protection so you don't need a scarf. The sleeves are long and overall, the coat is easy to operate with gloves on (except the zipper). Nice draw-cords and great pockets. The coat is roomy. It also takes a short time to dry. I love the hood which blocks the wind and cold. Pity the cut isn't good for extreme winter adventure-as it is a too little long, heavy and bulky for extreme winter adventure, but I wouldn't return it. This coat will probably last a couple of years.
good parka with a great cut By Why not my real name? Who's gonna know? from New Haven, CT on 12/02/2008 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Durable, Lightweight, Warm, Windproof Best Uses: Casual Wear, Cold Weather, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This is a very nice jacket. I don't think I would ever pay the full price for it, but you can see that this is not your regular north face et al. jacket. The cut is european, so it's nicely tailored, as opposed to the often baggy jackets from US manufacturers. It features the Toray Entrant V fabric, which is wonderful, more flexible and stretchy than Gore-Tex especially at lower temps, and retains good breathability even at high humidity (which Gore-Tex doesn't). Overall, well-made, with taped seems, every detail worked out right, no corners cut - the way a jacket of this type should be made, unfortunately, in this day an age that seems to mean spending $500+ if one was to pay the full price. Sad.
