First time out it worked like a champ. Handled 22 inch trout without a problem. Casts well and seems to be a good value for the dollar.

Martin Mohawk River Fly Rod with Fighting Butt Handle- 2-Piece

Excellent rods for the price
By TVFinAKVerified Reviewer from Alaska on 09/22/2007
Pros:
Rod case, Value
Cons:
Reoveable fighting butt, Warranty
Best Uses:
Red and Silver Salmon
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Comments:
I bought a couple of these in 8 & 9 wt. for red and silver salmon fishing - mainly next year as we are almost into winter here in Alaska. I catch a LOT of fish in the summer and put my rods to really hard use each year - more than most fishermen will see in a lifetime. Rods look very nice at the sale price. The heavy duty aluminum cases are very nice - much better than you would expect for a rod in that price range. Match one of these rods up with a Okuma Helios reel and you can have an excellent salmon setup for around $200. Negatives: No stated warranty I can find and fighting butts are screwed on - sure to get lost on the first trip unless you Loctite the threads.

Best Uses:
Fly Fishing, River Fishing
Describe Yourself:

Comments:
I was really happy when I received the rod. It was a great price and while I was a little nervous about the made in China thing and the "you get what you pay for" rule, I discovered that it was nicely finished, light, responsive and had lots of casting strength. The reel seat is beautiful and the rod tube it came in would withstand about anything.
