By beatles1030 from Seattle, WA on 09/13/2009 Pros: Durable, Great Traction, Stable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Backcountry, Cold weather, Day hikes, Everyday Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels half size too big Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: when I go downhill, my toes will cruch the front of the shoes and make uncomfortable. and size is a little bit too loose. I wear 10 normally, but this shoes I think I should wear 9 1/2. Otherwise, this is a good shoes.
By lakechild from Maine on 09/09/2009 Best Uses: Day hikes, Everyday Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Sizing: Feels half size too big Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: Front part of shoe seemed oversized, toe box wider , higher and longer than normal, and I have a wide foot and don't usually complain about that. I returned the shoes. With other aspects of the shoe I would have liked them if they had fit properly.
By Wendy from St. Louis, MO on 09/09/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Stable Best Uses: Day hikes, Everyday Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: These shoes feel great and have been comfortable from the first day. They have plenty of toe room but my foot doesn't slide around in them. There is a slight stitching defect on one, next to the lace holes, but for the price I can't complain. Other than that the quality seems very good.
By Choco from Northeast on 09/09/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Arch Support, Comfortable/No Break-In, Great Traction Best Uses: Cold Weather, Day Hiking, Long-Distance Hiking Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels full size too small, Feels too small Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I got these for some upcoming fall hikes/scrambles/climbs, but I wore them this past weekend for a moderate 8 mile hike with modest elevation gain in about 75 degree weather. I thought they may be too warm, but I wanted to see how they performed and broke in. I was very surprised - incredibly comfortable from the start and I felt like I was sprinting up the mountain due to the stiff soles. This is my first pair of "mountaineering" boots and while they are stiff, I like that and feel it's great for rough terrain. I can't wait to use them under harsher conditions.
One recommendation - do not drive in them. Seems silly, but they were actually the most uncomfortable in the car. When I got on the trail it was like a whole new boot.
Highly recommended and you can't beat the price. I may buy another pair. THESE DO RUN SMALL. Order your size accordingly.
By Schmee from Santa Barbara on 09/07/2009 Pros: Gore tex, Lightweight Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Sizing: Feels half size too small Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: First I was sent the wrong size, US versus UK sizes. The right size fits just as poorly as the wrong. Shoes look much better in picture than in reality. Built entirely too stiff even for heavy duty backpacking shoes.
Comfortable right out of the box By Mountain Dabbler from White Mountains, NH on 09/01/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Great Traction Best Uses: Backcountry, Day hikes Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Boots were bought to replace a pair of light hiking boots from LL Bean after the sole fell off of one boot (!). The Raichles were taller and looked stiffer, but to my surprise were very comfortable right out of the box. I have only worn them about 5 miles, but it was on steep terrain - baptized them accidentally in deep swamp mud - they kept my feet dry (although not billed as waterproof) and cleaned up nicely when I got home. I picked a winner.
By Atlanta angler from Decatur, GA on 08/24/2009 Pros: Comfortable/No Break-In Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Leather lining is hard to find, and if you want something without the almost ubiquitous Goretex, etc., liners (which get real hot for me), give this a go. It's not going to be waterproof, but different shoes for different uses. FYI, I have a very straight foot, and find this a pretty good fit, and the leather will help with the outside toe fit. I can also get his snug enough on my skinny heels, but only with lacing techniques.
By Rocky Backpacker from MT on 08/20/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Arch Support Best Uses: Harsh Terrain, Heavy Loads, Long-Distance Hiking Describe Yourself: Backpacker Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: The US 7.5 fit my left foot perfectly. A very comfortable, stiff boot great for serious backpacking and off trail, rocky trail use. My right foot needs a roomy toebox to accomadate a big toe joint. These boots almost fit the bill. It was just a bit snug and they wouldn't have stretched with use. I tried an 8, but it felt smaller, I tried an 8.5 and it was definitely a size too large. A potentially great boot, great toe room, but not quite a fit for me.
By reptilz from Louisa Va on 08/20/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Great Traction, Stable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Backcountry, Day hikes, Everyday, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I use these boots daily for work and play
By Gardener from Lincoln MA on 08/19/2009 Describe Yourself: Outdoor Professional Sizing: Feels full size too big Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I wish I could use these boots but they are so big and completely different from my other Raichle boots the same size, that I have to return them.
