If the temp raises in the afternoon the shirt serves as an outer layer, protects from sun exposure as well.

Maybe this one is defective? I was not sure if this is normal so I used it to find out. After about 2 hrs in the rain, I was warm but wet all down my front. The zip area in front overlaps and should work but does not.

It is waterproof! If you are used to GoreTex, you would find this jacket heavier, in weight, than what you are used to. Small drawback is that hood cannot be removed from jacket.
