By Sierra Club Service Volunteer from Chicago, IL on 10/01/2008 Pros: Easy to assemble, Good Value, Roomy for two with bags Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: The tent had its maiden voyage to Santa Cruz Island, off the coast of California. It was easy to set up and roomy for two. I was very pleased with it, and I have great expectations for more adventures with it.
Great except the footprint By Glo from Anchorage, AK on 09/30/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Easy To Set Up, Fly Works Well Cons: Footprint attachment Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Comfort Driven Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I have only used this product once but it performed well. I have yet to test it in serious rain though. I bought the footprint for this also but it won't stay on the ends of the tent poles. The pole tips are not long enough for the rain fly, tent body and foot print grommets to fit and stay on. I consider this to be a serious design flaw.
By GCat from CT. on 09/26/2008 Pros: Lightweight, Waterproof Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Chest Size: Feels too small Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: I was a bit disappointed when this item arrived. I felt the quality could have been better for the [$]. It's basically a very lightweight wind breaker that's waterproof. Don't expect it to keep you warm, just dry. Quite honestly, I could have bought a jacket of this quality for half the price [...]
Great tent, even better price! By Ang&Dave from St Louis, MO on 09/21/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Easy To Set Up, Fly Works Well, Sturdy, Waterproof Best Uses: Backpacking, Mountaineering Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This is a great tent! Only downside being that it is a bit on the heavier side, but considering it is a convertible 4 season, and with the price, you really can't beat it. We used this tent while backpacking in the Rocky Mtns, we encountered a couple of days of good weather, and then some high winds, rain, sleet, and snow. It withstood it all without any problems, and no leaks! We are very happy with our purchse. Images shared by: Ang&DaveAlpha Tent at Willow Lake, CO Tags: Picture of Product, Using Product
By Carlo from Independence, OR on 09/18/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Easy To Set Up, Sturdy Best Uses: Backpacking, Car Camping, Hiking Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Comfort Driven Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This tent is replacing a similar design from about 20 years ago. All in all, a pretty good tent. I has too much mesh screening to retain much heat-good for warm nights, a bummer in cold weather. I did manage to secure the fly down to the tent to help with this, but then condensation becomes an issue. So I'd say it's a warmer weather tent. Definitely not for winter. The fly is a bit baffling, but color coding an attachment point helps. It's a quick set up and take down, but doing the fly alone would be time consuming. Also, as someone mentioned, buy some serious tent stakes before you use it. The "complimentary" stakes included are a joke. It's spacious for one person, cozy for two, can't imagine getting three people in it at once. My biggest disappointment in shopping for a new tent is that they all seem to be made in China. Forget finding one made in US.
By World Traveler from New York, NY on 09/18/2008 Pros: Lightweight, Waterproof Best Uses: Hiking, Walking Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Inseam: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I bought these pants to take on a late season Alaska cruise. It rained over half the trip and the temps were in the low 50's. Worn over my jeans or hiking pants, they kept me dry. Cons are the waistband is only slightly adjustable, so can be difficult to pull on over layers of clothes. Also I am 5'8" and while not too short, these pants do creep up above my ankles/tops of hiking boots.
By GJ from Corvallis, OR on 09/16/2008 Pros: Breathable, Waterproof Best Uses: Tropical downpours Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: One drawback is the inside pockets on each side have a hole in the corner for some unknown reason and I almost lost a cell phone through it. Be warned!

Lots of features, ample space--too much? By Hiker chick from Cambridge, MA on 09/13/2008 Pros: Great Zipper System, Lightweight Best Uses: Backpacking, Car Camping Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I bought this bag looking for a light summer bag I could easily carry for a low weight overnight. This one was both more and less than I bargained for. I thought it had a hood, like the right-zip version. No, there's no hood (though this cuts several oz of weight). I also can't find info anywhere whether the L and R versions would zip together if we'd bought both. I am a small woman, and this bag was AMPLE for me, pretty ample even for my 5'-10" BF (although he'd be sleeping with his head above top, and it'd be a cave for me). It is lightweight, and the full length zip and foot room are pure basecamp luxury. However, the stuffed size is 6" longer (1/3!) than the Golite daze, which is the one I'm settling on. Regrettably, small stuff size trumps the Shavano's equally light weight with more features and larger stuff size. Also the Daze offered a short model, and I truly need that in a unisex bag.
By Allan the Expedition Canoeist from Canada on 09/12/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Easy To Set Up, Fly Works Well, Lightweight, Sturdy, Waterproof Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Comfort Driven Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Double door is wonderful. Tent is very sturdy even in Arctic winds. Stays dry in howling storms if you batten down the hatches. I own three of these tents. |
