This book illustrates and explains basics well and as soon as things thaw out around here, I will put my new found education to good use. I plan on having my kids read this before we head out on the waters again.

Covers all the basics. You won't find much on advanced paddling techniques in here. Makes a good gift for a newbie.

Very comprehensive, very accessible, in most cases Matthews says exactly what I want my students to hear.
