As nice as my Mountain Hardwear By NumbDiver from St. Paul, MN on 08/24/2009 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Durable, Lightweight, Stylish, Warm Best Uses: Casual Wear, Cold Weather, Hiking and Camping Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Similar in style and build quality as my Mtn Hrdwr, but without the name. For the price, it's a no-brainer.
By liseV from brooklyn on 08/20/2009 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Good Weight Best Uses: Casual Wear, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Competitive Athlete Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: The jacket was stylish but I wanted more technical features like venting stash pockets. It was also cropped and too short to provide the type of coverage I wanted for working out. Good for casual use
By Rhia from Tromsoe, Norway on 08/20/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Good Weight, Stylish Best Uses: Casual Wear, Travel, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Occasional Exerciser Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Short, slightly fitted, very light-weight and packable jacket with nice style and a bit of stretch. There are no extras—just hand-warmer pockets. No vents or inside pockets. Stops wind and at least light rain; haven't tried it in heavy rain. Exactly what I wanted for combination travel (city/country), primarily in temperatures above 45 F. I'm ca size 10; Large fits over a t-shirt plus a light-weight hoodie.
By camper from Austin, Tx on 08/17/2009 Best Uses: Backcountry, Hiking Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I have not got the chance to use the jacket yet. I like it so far, first, it's gore-tex at a very good price. Second, it is very light weight. Third, it's roomy enough (I usually order jacket one size up for layering), unlike some other feminine style jacket, so that I have enough room for layering, even with a fleece jacket. I will write some more review once I put it to the real test.
By k from la on 08/12/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Easy To Load, Good Padding, Highly Adjustable, Large Capacity, Lightweight Best Uses: Day Hikes, Light Loads, Travel Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: The best thing about this backpack is that it can be cinched down to become a 1000cu-in, but can be expanded to handle 3000cu-in. It has very hand pouches on the hip pads. The construction seems nice. This isn't the lightest backpack out there, but it's a good tradeoff between weight and capacity/durability.
By The Angler from Cedar Hills, UT on 08/12/2009 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Durable, Lightweight, Warm, Windproof Best Uses: Casual Wear, Extreme Conditions, Hiking and Camping, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This is the first time i've purchased a technical softshell. This one seems to be very well made. I have used it while fly fishing in the mountains. Comfortable and light weight!
By JR from central PA on 08/10/2009 Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Chest Size: Feels true to size Gear Usage: Cold Weather Living Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: It was a shaped different. The chest area was really big boxy.
By Fancy Fiddler from Seattle, WA on 08/08/2009 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Stylish Best Uses: Casual Wear, Sports, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Frequent Exerciser Sleeve Length: Feels too short Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This jacket runs small so order 1 size up. Used it for a trip to Europe that involved city visits as well as hiking. I would not use it for mountain backpacking--a bit too bulky--but perfect for times when need excellent rain protection on the trail as well as stylish enough to wear in wet weather in the city.
wide toe box and not too durable By tta.hiker from Nashville, TN on 08/07/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Great Traction, Stable Cons: Sole Wears Out Quickly, Squeaks Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels half size too big Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: I really wanted these shoes to work, I've read other reviews that said they were not that durable but thought I'd take a chance.
Pros- They look cool. They are comfortable right out of the box. They have a three piece insole system that lets you make it thicker or thinner. They drain fairly quickly when doing creek crossings.
Cons- They seemed too wide in the toe box even with the thickest insole. The deep lugs on the soles appeared to be somewhat fragile. I had a couple of good nicks in three of them after the first dayhike (9 miles) I went on. The shoes just aren't durable enough for backpacking. After the first 9 mile day carrying about 18 pounds the interior where the arch is was coming apart. It seems to be three layers, the outer material, a middle foam type material and an inner mesh type fabric that your sock/insole would be in contact with. The middle foam material was pulled away from the other layers and bunched near the bottom. It appeared the insole caused this by rubbing against the side of the shoe. Both shoes did this as did both sides but the arch side was worse. Also under the insole where the heel area is stiched to the sole that fabric that covers the sole came lose on the second day of the backpack. After 4 days and a modest 35 miles in the Smokies the left shoe already had a hole rubbed through the inner mesh by the arch. I'm returning these today. I do wish they had held up better.
