By Scout Dad from Seattle, WA on 09/15/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Good Padding, Highly Adjustable, Large Capacity Best Uses: Extended Hikes, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational What Is Your Gear Style: Comfort Driven Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I bought the men's version of this product for myself and a lighter product for my boy's first Boy Scout hike. Although his stated it was designed for his smaller waist, we couldn't tighten it nearly enough and he was carrying all the weight on his shoulders. I had to give up my pack to him for the trip out, now he wants to keep it. His pack is nice and fits me OK, but I want my pack back! Even with the increased weight it feels lighter than other packs due to the way it shifts the weight to the hips where it belongs. Great pack.
By NB from Yosemite, CA on 08/01/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Good Padding, Large Capacity Best Uses: Extended Hikes, Heavy Loads, Travel, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I'm a trail worker, and I've used this pack to carry all types of odd and heavy loads from chain saws to rock drills to bridge tools. I also use it on my weekend backpacking trips through the High Sierras. This pack is very, very comfortable and solid. The zippers and canvas material are heavy duty, and the pack itself is well designed. It won't shift around and throw you off balance. Because of my job and hiking lifestyle, I've used several different brands of packs extensively, and this is absolutely the only one I would recommend for great comfort and function.
Well made excellent product. By Trailblazer from Tennessee on 07/28/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Easy To Load, Good Padding, Highly Adjustable, Large Capacity, Lightweight Best Uses: Extended Hikes, Heavy Loads, Travel, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Macpac rules. The best back pack on the market. Well made heavy duty construction with loads of storage space. Quite comfortable even with close to 100Lbs of equipment. A few extra outer pockets would be great but that is about the only negative.
By Matthew from North Western, U.S.A. on 07/13/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Easy To Load, Good Padding, Highly Adjustable, Large Capacity Best Uses: Extended Hikes, Heavy Loads, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: These are great packs but they are NOT made in New Zealand like everyone seems to think. True enough, Macpack is a Kiwi company, but they no longer make their packs in NZ, but rather these are made in the Philippines. They are still a pretty good pack overall. The harness system can't compare to Osprey or Gregory and some other American companies, but even those aren't made in the U.S. any longer. They are made in Asia too. (Osprey now makes their packs in Vietnam). The real redeeming factor of these newer Macpacs is the Aztec fabric they are made of. It truly is much more water/weather resistant than the average packcloth like DuPont Cordura and all the knock-offs out there. It is also much more abrasion resistant than most of the newer, more modern lightweight fabrics being used by most high-end pack makers. These DO NOT, however, compare in overall quality to the original Made in New Zealand Macpacks of a few years back. That being said, I would still buy one again for trips when I anticipate lots of wet weather. I also have one of their Travel packs which is pretty good too....only lacking in general technology in the harness system. I think this is a great pack for the average backpacker....and you will probably never wear it out.

By Pelon Melon from Ring of Fire a.k.a. San Joaquin Valley. on 07/02/2008 Pros: Durable, Good Back Support, Good Padding, Strong Zippers Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational What Is Your Gear Style: Comfort Driven Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Great pack, tough, adjustable and comfortable. Black was the only choice left and another color would make locating smaller items in the bowels of this pack a little easier. But that's about the only thing I can find to complain about, buy it, you'll love it.
By Whakasboy from Whakatane NZ on 06/10/2008 Pros: Capacity, Durable, Easy to Pack, Good Back Support, Good Padding, Strong Zippers Best Uses: Backpacking, Camping, Hunting Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: These packs are good and strong. If you need a pack that can take a good load without falling apart these are the one. I've had 35kg in mine (when meat hunting) and it's up to the task. My only complaint is they're very tall and it makes getting under scrub and logs a hassle when you're off trail. Images shared by: Whakasboy

By P.J. from Fond du lac, Wisconsin on 05/19/2008 Pros: Durable, Easy to Pack, Good Back Support, Good Padding, No need for cover, Strong Zippers Cons: Doesn't seem true to size Best Uses: Airline Travel, Backpacking, Camping, Extended Travel, Short Travel, Weekend Trips Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Comfort Driven Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I like this pack, it rocks. Plenty of compartments, a lot of straps to keep it tight. I can fit a 4-5 day hike, I think that's sweet... A pocket on the waist would've been really nice, or a strap to tighten a knife on. Overall this is nice pack.
