Macpac

Macpac

New Zealand backpack company Macpac is the offspring of ambition and experience. In 1973, Macpac’s then 19-year-old Bruce McIntyre left university studies to start his own company. His vision was simple: to design and manufacture backpacks that were more functional and affordable than anything else on the market. Soon after, Bruce offered to make backpacks for a group of experienced young backpackers from the Canterbury Mountaineering Club if they agreed to help with the pack design. The pack that emerged from this collaboration was Macpac’s first internal frame climbing backpack, the Torre Egger. This original Macpac backpack design has since been copied by many other companies. Thirty years later, Macpac’s collaboration between designers and experienced outdoorsmen is still an integral aspect of the company. Daypacks, trekking packs and internal frame backpacks from Macpac have garnered many awards and accolades. From humble beginnings to worldwide prestige, Macpac continues to raise the bar in the backpack industry.
