Comments:
I just returned from Alaska. I used this product a lot. yes, you have to put some pressure on the bottle to get liquid out. but this is because the water is going through a filtration. I would bring this bottle empty with me and fill it up at streams and runooffs from melting snow.

The "straw" is really nice, but you get more AIR than WATER! Got a cheapy from Curves that works better than this! I considered this a rip off.

I filled it up with water and turned it upside down overnight. The filter was saturated and the next day I had no problem squeezing the water out. I took it on a dayhike to Maiden Hair Falls in Anza Borrego and refilled it at the waterfall. It worked really well.

I carry a "survival"kit in my vehicle, and I"ll keep it there until I go on a paddling trip and I'll take it with me. I have two water filtration systems that I regularly carry on a wilderness trip. This is a lightweight backup system.

On a mountain goat hunt last fall, I lost my water and Gatorade and had to resort to eating ice that was coming out of the ground. The goat herd was above us in the water shed and the water was not safe to drink. Now I have two Bota bottles. One for me and one for anyone willing to go hunting with me. Now I will be able to drink the water from the mountain and stay safe.

older ones best
By guide from east tn mountains on 10/16/2007
Pros:
Large Capacity
Cons:
Poor Construction
Best Uses:
Extended Hikes
Describe Yourself:
Professional Guide
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Comments:
The older ones were ideal for quick personal filtration. Beware of the new ones however, they have a new round filter without plastic cover that simply is subpar. Won't let air escape, extremely hard to squeeze water through. If you can get your hands on the old ones though--go for it.
