great buy!! on a D2 steel blade. By Dick Dunkin from Monroe, LA on 11/08/2008 Pros: Comfortable Grip, Durable, Sharp Blade Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: great price on a good quality steel blade, good all around skinner / utility knife. Being a NRA numbered collector makes it even better. I am ordering a second one for a keep sake and will really test this one out in the field.
By Knife Collector from Winston Salem, NC on 09/25/2008 Pros: Good blade design, My favorite steel, Okay grind, Sharp Blade Cons: Metal extends beyond wood, Uncomfortable Grip Best Uses: Backcountry Camping, Day Trips, Field dressing, Hunting Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: this knife has a good design..the blade is the correct size and thickness..D2 steel, if properly heat treated, is about as good as a knife steel can get..I really dont understand the way the knife steel extends past the handle around the entire perimeter of the handle. It makes it uncomfortable, especially when it's cold..A little more wood in the handle would make a perfect hunter
Predictable result of foreign-sourcing By Gino from Salt Lake City, UT on 08/13/2008 Pros: Comfortable Grip, Good Weight, Versatile Cons: Defective Lock, Difficult To Clean, Poor Craftsmanship Best Uses: Campgrounds, Day Trips, Hunting Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: Sad to see Benchmade sourcing their knives from Taiwan...with predictable results. The knife is shipped in a plastic clamshell package, with the main blade in the locked position, and the one I received is frozen in that position. No evidence of corrosion, just a defective mechanism. This one's going back for a refund. Also, the other two blades are shipped partially open...a dangerous condition for whoever opens the box, and worse for whoever tries to replace them in the box in that position.
Quality knife @ good price, few quibbles By Gino from Salt Lake City, UT on 08/13/2008 Pros: Durable, Finish, Nice looking, Sharp Blade Best Uses: Camping, Hunting Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Good steel (D2), rear of grip a little uncomfortable for large hands, but not too bad.
Sharp out of the box.
This will make a great general big-game field-dressing knife as well as a skinner.
The sheath, while attractive, does not come near the quality of the knife. With the strap unsnapped, it fits the knife quite loosely, and has zero additional retention ability. Do NOT invert the sheath, even a little, with the strap unsnapped.
The strap could also use a stiffener (metal tab) on the tab by the snap, as after just a few manipulations the leather here has become too flexible to be an effective thumb-/finger-break.
By fisherman from Vail, Colorado on 08/09/2008 Pros: Durable, Sharp Blade Best Uses: Camping, Hunting Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This seems like an OK knife. While nothing is wrong with it I would say it should retail for around the STP price? It is simple and has a small grip. I don't see it ever being worth any more, I am not sure what the run of 1000 means with this knife?
By Kingston Kid from Knoxville, TN on 08/01/2008 Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Nicely executed knife. Good size for carry and use.
I don't know Rick Hinderer but it's a C By fisher from Colorado on 08/01/2008 Cons: Finish on wood is poor, Small handle Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: I purchased the knife on sale and would say that is the correct retail price for this knife . I am happy I did not pay retail and I see no value in the limited edition.
