Black Pine Big Country Tent - 8-Person, 3-Season

how about some set-up instructions?!
By JJ from Minneapolis, MN on 08/18/2008
Pros:
Comfortable, Waterproof
Cons:
Difficult To Setup, Flimsy Construction
Best Uses:
Car Camping
Describe Yourself:
Avid Adventurer
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Comments:
I bought this tent for my two-year-old son's introductory camping trip. It was a frustration trying to set it up in the yard before our trip, and not any better in the woods. How about one or two simple instructions with the tent? Once we had it set up, it did provide all the comfortable space and open, airy feel that we wanted. It was pretty good at keeping out water during some very heavy rainstorms and was very sturdy during near-tornado winds. Despite all that, two of the zippers couldn't stand up to two days of normal use. The zipper repairs were estimated at more than I paid for the tent, so I threw it away after only one use!!!

Hardware wears holes in fabric

Heavy
Best Uses:
Car Camping
Describe Yourself:

Comments:
The hardware on the folding legs seems to abrade holes in the wall and roof fabric when the tent is collapsed, probably just due to normal handling in its carry bag.

An RV alternative
By CMinORVerified Reviewer from Portland, Oregon on 06/25/2008
Pros:
Easy to set up, Fly Works Well, Sturdy, Waterproof
Cons:
Heavy
Best Uses:
Beach, Car Camping
Describe Yourself:
Casual/ Recreational
What Is Your Gear Style:
Comfort Driven
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Comments:
A portable cabin with plenty of headroom and covered space for storing gear. The features are too many to count and the external frame extention and waterproof fly double the area under the tent by creating a large vestibule which opens on three sides. Pretty remarkable for the price.

Cons:
Flimsy Construction, Poles break easily, Poles too long, Poor Fly Design
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Comments:
I'm returning this tent. It's not worth owning. The cheap tents from big-box discount stores are twice as good as this flimsy thing.

What a disappointment. We were looking for an inexpensive tent for car camping. This tent barely made it out of the box without fabric tearing and poles breaking. When we set it up in the yard, it nearly fell over when a gentle breeze came through. What can I say, you get what you pay for. I should have known better, but I'm suprised STP even carries products that are of such utterly low quality. The best thing about this product were the laughs we had joking about how ridiculous it would be to actually go camping with this tent. Save yourself some frustration and buy a reputable brand name.

LEAKY great layout

Pros:
Sturdy
Cons:
Difficult To Setup, Heavy, Poor Fly Design
Best Uses:
Car Camping
Describe Yourself:
Avid Adventurer
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Comments:
This tent has a great layout, nice ventilation, and (once you figure it out) simple set-up(might need some additional lubrication on the poles so they freely extend). We had to manually extend the poles which was not in the instructions so the were intended to slide freely but they dont. This tent LEAKS. DO NOT USE IN ANY KIND OF Percipitation. It is only good for perfect weather. For a [$] tent it should have better protection from the element. Performs like a [$] tent.

Black Pine Hiker Backpack - External Frame, Hydration Compatible

Not kidding, this is a big bag!
By The DonVerified Reviewer from Baker City, OR on 05/29/2008
Pros:
Durable, Easy to Pack
Cons:
Not Enough Padding
Best Uses:
Backpacking, Weekend Trips
Describe Yourself:
Casual/ Recreational
What Is Your Gear Style:
Comfort Driven
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Comments:
This is a big bag with lots of exterior compartments and mesh holders. Only thing I dont like is that the rain fly is stored right where your hydration bladders are. I would recommend this bag to those who plan to go for several days, not worth carrying if you only go for a night or two.
