Best rod for the money, hands down!!! By none from Winchester, Ky on 11/17/2009 Pros: Accurate Casting, Durable, Easy To Transport, Flexible, Good Tip Action, Sensitive Best Uses: Fly Fishing, River Fishing, Small Fish Describe Yourself: Avid Fisher Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I own many fly rods, some high dollar, but none casts better than the Borger Targus rod. I really enjoy fishing with it, to a point that I prefer using it instead of my former favorite Loomis rod. Very attractive and well constructed, plus it comes with two tip sections (done no where else in the industry). If I had not purchased other rods earlier in my fishing experience, I would have gone for the Borger and lived happily ever after. The great price doesn't hurt, either.
By Military Fly Fisherman from South Korea on 11/16/2009 Pros: Big Bang for the Bucks, Custom appearance, Easy To Transport, Extra tip, High Quality Handle Cons: A Bit Heavy, Too Stiff Best Uses: Fly Fishing, Lake Trolling-Casting, River Fishing Describe Yourself: Avid Fisher Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Rod used for trout in 3-7 pound range. Somewhat stiff in presentation and a bit heavy compared to a Sage rod in same wt and price range.
By Oldschooler from Bakersfield, CA on 11/09/2009 Pros: Easy To Transport, Quality appeared good Cons: Didn't like the reel seat Best Uses: Fly Fishing, River Fishing Describe Yourself: Avid Fisher Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: I did not use the rod so I can't comment on its performance. The fact that two tip sections were included is novel for current rods. My problem with it is that the design and finish of both the rod and reel seat were just not traditional enough to suit me. The attempt to be unique went just a little too far in my opinion. I own a lot of rods and just couldn't warm up to this design.
For the price and excellent buy By Mikey from Puyallup, Washington on 11/06/2009 Describe Yourself: Avid Fisher Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I purchased this rod as a back-up rod for my Certified Casting Instructor test in August 2010. Distance casting at 75 to 80 feet is not a problem. Rod loads well with any weight forward line. Its a good fresh water rod but not a good salt-water rod, due to the way the reel-seat was made. To many areas to clean, and salt can cause lots of problems.
A well made high quality rod. By Fishhead from Upper Michigan on 11/02/2009 Pros: Easy To Transport, Good Tip Action Best Uses: Fly Fishing, Large Fish Describe Yourself: Avid Fisher Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This is a good value. The the two tips and the case a real plus. The rod is well made with great action.
By Keith from Reno, NV on 10/27/2009 Pros: Accurate Casting, Easy To Transport, Good Tip Action Best Uses: Fly Fishing, River Fishing Describe Yourself: Avid Fisher Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This is a nice rod at a great price. The easy action is a great confidence builder for novice casters. The extra tip is a bonus. I would recommend this rod to a friend and maybe even buy another one in a different weight.
By John from Virginia on 10/19/2009 Pros: Accurate Casting, Durable, Easy To Transport, Flexible, Good Tip Action, Sensitive Best Uses: Fly Fishing, Large Fish Describe Yourself: Avid Fisher Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Took this rod to New Orleans for some Redfish sport fishing. I was impressed with the lightness and flexibility. It performed more like a 5 wt. rod than the usuall stiffer 9 wts.
My buddies and the guides tried it and all agreed it was an awesome rod. I recieved many compliments on it's nice appaerance in addition to it's performance. Oh yeah I caught some nice 25 pounders with it.
By hooked up from Zionsville,Ind. on 10/01/2009 Pros: Accurate Casting, Easy To Transport, Flexible Best Uses: Fly Fishing, River Fishing, Small Fish Describe Yourself: Avid Fisher Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I bought this rod for wilderness backpacking and the two tips are really nice because it's not uncommon to break a tip in the backcountry. The rod is medium not fast and the tip is not the most sensitive but it loads well and with a relaxed casting style it casts nice.It does not have the traditional snake guides and the finish is nice.People at targus are super.A good value rod.
By Shamu from Albuquerque NM on 09/26/2009 Pros: Accurate Casting, Durable, Easy To Transport, Flexible, Good Tip Action, Sensitive Best Uses: Fly Fishing, Large Fish, Ocean Fishing Describe Yourself: Avid Fisher Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I bought this rod for my wife before our first bonefishing trip. It was fantastic... I enjoyed the rod more than mine !!!
By NJ flyfisherman from Morris country, NJ on 09/22/2009 Pros: Accurate Casting, Easy To Transport, Flexible, Sensitive Best Uses: Fly Fishing, River Fishing, Small Fish Describe Yourself: Avid Fisher Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I bought this rod (#4 wt) to be used on smaller streams for smaller fish. Have just fished it a couple of time but is impressed with the smooth action and the fun I've had landing panfish and trout using it. I wasn't looking for a casting cannon but this one still throws a #4 WF pretty well and further than I would ever need around here. I don't know how well it will hold up to bigger fish and longer term abuse, so it is four stars leaning towards all five.
